  1. Have stroke type selection like in InDesign

InDesign has a great feature in the Stroke Panel where you can select different types of strokes - like dashed, dotted, wavy, etc.

It would be great if Illustrator had the same feature.

  2. Inline Graphics / Anchor Object to text ability (like InDesign)

Please allow in-line graphics in text paragraphs, so graphics will move along with the rest of the copy within text. I am working on a lot of signage/wayfinding and the rooms keep getting moved about. Arro symbols and toilet icons have to be positioned manually and it is VERY time consuming. I wish the original artwork had been created in InDesign! Thanks

How important is this to you?

Please share some real cases for this feature you had in your practice, which could have benefit greatly from having inline graphics. It will help the team to plan it and make it more useful for Ai users, than analogues we have in InDesign and Figma.

  3. Properties panel lacks properties

CC 2018. Please include ALL properties for the selected object. Selecting a stroke should show ALL stroke properties (including cap, corner, dashed line etc).

And please don't put stuff behind the ellipsis icon (additional properties). Some of the additional properties menus duplicate the stuff in the panel itself, or don't even work.

If you want to make properties show by context, you need to make the dedicated panels obsolete!

  4. Less controls for selections, which scale and round corners instead of select and drag

A new handle and selection system was introduced, which included rounded corners, scale, and rotation options. Some of this was a good feature, until it wasn't. I desire a preference for turning off most handle options because with them on, I'm unable to select-option drag copy, or move elements unless I zoom in 1000 percent. The rotate and modifier keeps getting in my way and it's driving me nuts. Selecting and moving objects shouldn't be this frustrating.

  5. Have an 'Expand' button in the Image Trace panel

It's a pretty crazy change to remove it...
Why have it tucked away in the menus ?!

  6. Release to Layers should inherit custom names from original objects

When I Release to Layers, all of the objects within that layer are renamed to "Layer 1, Layer 2, Layer 3" etc. and I'd love to be able to have the new layers be named the same as when they were objects.

  7. A 'Remove Duplicate/Wholly Obscured Objects' feature

A 'Remove Duplicate/Wholly Obscured Objects' feature

I can pay for a plugin that removes duplicate objects that are immediately above/below a copy. I need something more sophisticated; an option to clean up a drawing by removing all duplicate objects and all wholly obscured objects.

  8. Use arrow keys to kern letterforms

I would like to use arrow keys to visually kern letterforms, instead of having to enter numerical values = what you can do now only if you outline type. Thanks, Barry

  9. (Prepress Features 2) Channel mixer

I use a lot the Channel mixer option in photoshop, cause i need to convert CMYK photos into lets say CM plus 2 or 3 spot colors, then I need to do the same in illustrator for vector illustrations and I dont want to convert this vector into pixels, I wana keep it vector to mantain the quality.

I know I can import the file as a smart object into photoshop but better if I can do it directly in Illustrator.

  10. Slug

As part of my daily workflow, all my art has to have a slug, when i put all the information about the file, date, time, user, CMYK and spot colors used, company logo, etc.

Editable and complete slug option will be appreciated, see attached an example of my manual slug, i use in conjunction with a plugin which puts date time, the user, etc automatically, but i don't like plugins, I want part of the Adobe illustrator Software.

    See attached an example

  11. (Prepress Features 1) Automatic Traping

I know illustrator has a trap option under the path finder window, but it is very basic and I am pretty sure that so many people even doesn’t know it exists.
For us that work in prepress industry a very good, complete and editable trapping options will be great and valuable, think on that, please.

There is a command in the Layers panel’s menu, called Delete Hidden Layers... Unfortunately, it deletes not only hidden layers, but also all hidden content. There is a separate request to rename the comment or add another, to distinct two operations: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/43634643-delete-hidden-layers-command-innapropriately-nam Please vote. Also, there is another request to delete unused/empty layers: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657-illustrator-desktop-feature-requests/suggestions/40696027-delete-unused-layers

  14. Select Fill or Stroke Does Not Make Selection Automatically Edit-Ready

For years I have been frustrated with how anytime I want to edit fills or strokes, Illustrator seems to ALWAYS have the wrong choice forward in the tools panel! It seems to always know when I want to edit strokes, because it always has fills ready to edit in the foreground swatch and vice-versa! All these years I just felt is was some sort of voodoo thing, but I finally realized why this happens to me the majority of the time. I use Select>Same>Fill Color, Select>Same>Stroke Color, Select>Same>Stroke Weight all the time. The main reason I make those selections by…

  15. Adobe installers for Mac install corrupt files

Adobe installers for Mac install corrupt files, as shown by DiskWarrior "Files - Check All Files and Folders”. For instance:

    /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Application Manager/LWA/amtservices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/._Info.plist

    /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Application Manager/LWA/asneu.framework/Versions/A/Resources/._Info.plist

It would be great if Adobe checked that to make sure all files are OK before releasing installers. Thanks.

  16. Save Vector Artboards by Clipping Vector Art to the Artboard

I need for vector artboards to be fully clipped to the artboard when saving as PDF and/or any other vector format. I have vector artwork for large format printing that I have cropped into many artboards in the same file. When I save individual artboards as PDF, any lines that extend outside the artboard are still available in the saved PDF file when opened in Illustrator. I need artboards to truly clip the vector artwork or I need another solution to this issue. Clipping masks do not actually clip vector artwork, in Outline Mode, the entire artwork is still there.…

It would be nice if you could have the data merge function like in Indesign so you can import .csv-files.

  18. USE of .CXF FILES within adobe cc

As >cxf files will soon be the future of colour communication why do x-rite and adobe not integrate .cxf files with each other. The idea of a .cxf file is to help stabilise colour across various substrates, regardless of background hue, it allows the use of a spectrophotometer to read the colour and match it against a dE tolerance to make sure the colour is within specified range.
Hence pantone live was born as every pantone book differs in colour, however a .cxf file never changes.

So pantone want you to use pantone live, which is fine until the colour…

  19. Display copies of links' duplicates as instances, like in InDesign

It would be nice if Illustrator's link panel was more link InDesign's in that it collapsed instances of the same linked file into an accordion. The user can then update multiple instances of a file to the same new link or link them individually to separate new links.

  20. Autofind Missing Links like in Indesign

When I'm relinking a missing image in Indesign, it automatically finds other missing links in the same folder that a relinked to. It would be life changing if Illustrator did the same. Currently you have to manually relink each missing link which can become very tedious.
