1. Allow to export empty TGA and TIFF

   1. Windows 10.
   2. Version 28.0.
   3. Exporting an empty file to TGA format.
   4. Illustrator should proceed to "Targa Options" but instead gives a message "Could not write the file because the plug-in made an invalid request of the Photoshop Adapter."
   5. No attachment needed, just open a new document and try to save it as TGA without adding any contents.

   This is an edge case - there are not many cases where you'd want an empty file of a specific resolution, although there are some, and of course in this case you can just make an empty TGA through Photoshop (which I have done). But I figured I'd pass this along anyways since while it is an edge case, it is buggy behaviour nonetheless. Worth the time to fix? Maybe, maybe not.

2. Allow to make sharp transitions using Width Tool

   Width Tool allows us to set width markers on a path, to make its stroke’s outline blend between set cross-sections. We have some limited controls over these markers, we can make each side have its own width, we can snap them to points, but that’s it.

   What we also need is way to make this transitions sharp, rather than smooth.
   Look at the image attached.

   The path on the top is a stroke with a variable stroke profile.
   The path on the bottom is a demonstration of what we want (an art brush actually).

   Sure, we can fake this behavior duplicating an existing marker close the the original (fighting the Ai’s urge to merge them). But if we expand these, this fake sharp transition generates a ton of points we don’t need, and it’s not actually a sharp point at all.

   At the meantime, Ai has the Curvature tool, that allows to quickly toggle sharp/smooth for points with a double-click or Ot/Alt-click. Double click for Width tool opens Width Point Edit dialog, but Opt/Alt does nothing — make it toggle the transition type.

   At the moment we have to build strokes like this with art brushes, which can’t be edited interactively on canvas, it’s a trial and error process. Adding sharp transitions to the Width Tool will make it much easier.

3. Feature Request: Preference for Copy and Duplicate Layers without auto renaming and adding "copy" to them

   Hi Adobe 🙂

   I make large Illustrator files that have lots of layers, and often I find myself copying a layer that has a ton of sublayers. I spend way too much time renaming the copied layers removing the word "copy" or "copy 3" etc from the sublayer names.

   I have found some workarounds, if this helps anyone. If I want to copy a layer called **, I will copy it, then rename it XXXz then paste and the new pasted layer is ** without the name copy, then I can go back and remove the z from the name of the source layer.

   But often, I just want to option drag a complicated layer or a number of elements into another layer and have the names not change.

   Can we make a preference for not renaming duplicated or copied files? It would save me a ton of time and effort, and it seems like it wouldnt be a big deal to add a feature like that - it's not really complicated, but of course it takes time and resources away from other things perhaps?

   Still if it's an easy fix PLEASE consider it? It would save me many hours of time over a month.

4. Remove Movie Clip/Graphic dropdown in Symbol options dialog

   Update Symbol Options dialog to remove the Movie Clip/Graphic dropdown which is noted as being for Flash tagging. Flash is dead tech.

5. Offline Tutorials

   Tutorials in the new version only work on-line. In older version we could use tutorials off-line as well.

   In prison classroom, student (inmate) computers do not have on-line access all the time so they cannot use tutorials. Starting with a tutorial is very helpful to break the ice and give them an overview of the program.

   Make tutorials accessible both in Photoshop and illustrator in off-line mode.
   We pay the subscription price so we should be able to use the tutorials as well.

6. Add an option to hide the Search/Filter field in Layers

   Search/Filter is cool, but some prefer to not have it.
   Other panels allow to choose components: we can pick sections to display in the Character panel, we can show or hide the search field in Swatches, etc.

   However, the panel does not have such an option in its flyout menu.
   Please add one!

7. Graph to vector

   I'm requesting a feature I'm calling Graph to Vector. The idea would be to use the data in a graph and use the AI capabilities to generate a vector based on that data.

   For instance, if you had a graph representing how you spent your budget this past year with 5 different categories divided by percentages, you could take the colors used to represent the percentages and make a vector with those same colors in those same percentages. If 20% of the budget was represented by blue, then 20% of the vector could be blue.

   It would be a totally new way of representing data in a more visually appealing way. The applications for this would be amazing! Annual reports, magazine ads, slideshows, videos, etc... The possibilities are endless! Gamechanger.

8. Placing "Show Import Options" - Import Photoshop Artboards Individually into Illustrator

   Give placing options (similar to the PDF import options) when placing a Photoshop file (.PSD and .PSB) into Illustrator; if the "Show Import Options" box is checked, give the user the options to import Photoshop Artboards Individually (Similar to .Ai and PDF Artboards) or as the whole image file.

   The "Show Import Options" box must be checked to get these options, however if not checked, the whole image file will be imported into Illustrator regardless of artboards present.

9. Need 'Allow Tool Recording ' feauture in Illustrator's Action Panel

   I'm a graphic designer, digital artist, and traditional painter with over 20 years of experience. As a digital artist and painter, I would like to record my workflow within Illustrator with targeted layers, similar to how Rebelle records only top layers. I would greatly appreciate it if you could implement the tool recording and workflow recording options in Illustrator specifically for particular targeted layers or for all the layers in a project. This would be a great option for all digital artists, as it would save us time in recording and showcasing our work in video form. It's a very important feature that must be included in Adobe Illustrator.

10. Padding and margin in Illustrator objects

    It would be interesting to be able to place a margin or padding on objects such as shapes or text, in addition to a magnet system in which you can select what to stick this margin to, it could be vertex or edges.

12. Add Focus Fill and Focus Stroke commands we can assign hotkeys to

    Illustrator focuses either a fill or a stroke to be set.
    We can control the focus with the hardcoded X key, that toggles fill and stroke, but it also requires to know which is active at the moment to know if we should press it.

    It’d be faster for professional user to actually force the stroke or the fill to be active, with dedicated absolute keys instead of relative ones.

    I’d use something Alt+X and Alt+Shift+X (these are free), or remapped them to something even more simpler.

13. Multi page PDF import: needs to respect original document color space

    Hi,
    Now when selecting "All" for page range, Illustrator creates a document with default color space, e.g. now CMYK.
    It would be nice if PDF importer was a bit smarter and could check and respect original PDF's color space, and set up the document in Illustrator to match.

    E.g. when importing an RGB pdf, it would use RGB color space; and CMYK for CMYK.

15. Animated Zoom for Mouse wheel

    Please add the Animated Zoom function for the mouse wheel, now this can only be done using the "Z" key and the mouse movement. It is very inconvenient to scroll using alt + mouse wheel when the percentage of increase jumps from 66% to 100% in one turn of the mouse wheel. The trackpad on the macbook zooms very well, but it is not convenient to use. Add a switch to the "General" settings next to the scroll wheel " Use Animated Zoom to scroll with the mouse.

16. Allow third-party developers to add dividers and custom sorting into Effect menus

    Third-party developers can add custom items in menus.
    Some create their own sub-menus, some add them in-between native commands... there are several practices they use and when they all get used together it feels somewhat chaotic.

    But it feels like this is because plugin devs can’t fully control the commands in menus. It turns out, they can’t control the order and sorting, add dividers in Effects (but seemingly can in every other menu)...

    Effect menu is the most weird menu in Ai, it looks different from others. Maybe that’s why?

17. Type number of sides for polygon tool and star tool

    Currently to get a number of points on a star you have to type the [up key] or [down key] But often I know what number of points or sides I want on the polygon or star.

    I'd like the ability to type the number of sides/points.

    This could be achieved in a number of ways:
    - An option panel (could change it after the fact as long as it is selected as long as the points haven't been moved?)
    - hold and drag and type the number (say 3, 6, 9, etc)
    - double click on the polygon/star icon on the tools palette which brings up a dialog box Then you can type in things like number of stars and size similar to the Line segment tool. (Also extend this to the rectangle, etc tools?)

    I'm pretty sure implementation of this probably would be a bit tricky? The number trick for hold and drag for sides 1-9 probably wouldn't be as hard to implement, given that up and down keys are already cued to the number of sides.

    The rest of it has some architecture, but probably would take longer to implement.

    It's annoying to have to go "I need an octagon, but I just got 9 sides" and then go, "Oh, I need a pentagon...." and then spend a good few minutes trying to magically get the number of sides. And then going, "Oh ****, I'd like to get the octagon again and it would be easier to draw it out than find where my last octagon was..." and then sit there again hoping to get the perfect number of sides.

    I'm not saying "eliminate the up and down key" because sometimes people don't know how many sides they need, etc and want that randomness, but I want precision too and sometimes on a new document that's super annoying.

    BTW, Scripts don't particularly work on my computer. So please don't recommend scripts.

18. Trim View - Isolate to one artboard only

    I like the option of "Trim View" to temporarily hide artwork that outside of my artboard. But when I have overlapping artboards and I try to use trim view on one of them Illustrator combines the area of the overlapping artboards and trims everything outside of that "merged" artboard. This defeats the purpose of using trim view for me. I would like trim view to isolate the artboard I'm working on and only that artboard. It would also be nice if the black lines showing the other artboard extents would also disappear when entering trim view for a single artboard. The cherry on top would be the ability to control the opacity of the trim view, so that I could still faintly see the artwork outside the artboard.

    FYI - my artboards are overlapping because I'm using them on a large map file. The map covers a large area and there are multiple printed map products coming from it, each with their own artboard extent (so I can quickly save out pdfs based on artboard extents). My current method of isolating one artboard is to just create a large rectangle with a hole cut out that is the same shape as the artboard I'm working on. Trim view seems like an easier method of accomplishing the same thing, except that it doesn't seem to isolate artboards if they are overlapping.

    To illustrate:
    Screenshot #1 shows a map file with many different artboards. I added red rectangles to show where all the artboards are.

    Screenshot #2 shows the same file with trim view on (and the red rectangles turned off).

19. Ability to backup fonts from Adobe Fonts locally

    Recommendations on where to download fonts that wont disappear? I have t-shirts I'm selling and cant find fonts I used so I have to change all the websites imp marketing on.

20. Don't reset view rotation when pressing Escape

    When you are in a rotated view, pressing Escape resets the rotation to zero degrees. This is frustrating when you're merely trying to exit Object Isolation or exit text editing.

    There does not seem to be a Keyboard Shortcut for this operation, which I would expect to see.
