2. Add a way to protect chosen colors in Recolor while randomizing, and allow to limit chosen colors to different libraries, all in one session

   I use the Recolor (color mixer/wheel) daily. I have come across a couple features missing.

   Feature Request 1:
   - I use the 'randomize/recolor' tool to scroll through a self-made palette and recolor prints with several colors.
   - When I've come across a semi-acceptable mix, I can't lock in the colors I like.
   - To hold those colors, I have to save and close the color mix window, then reopen and 'lock' those colors
   - This adjusted feature would allow me to 'lock' the couple colors that are working for the print, while being able to scroll through options for the remaining colors

   Feature Request 2:
   - I often use Coated Pantone + Cotton Pantone books simultaneously.
   - If I open a print in CMYK, I will use the color mixer, open the Coated pantone library, and allow the mixer to find 'the closest color' to the CMYK's I've selected.
   - The issue comes when I know there's a closer color in the Cotton pantone library for 1 or 2. I can't use this 'life hack' again for 2 or 3 remaining colors, if I want to hold onto the coated swatches.
   - Again, I can save, close, and re-open the color mixer, but that's annoying.
   - I would prefer to keep the option to open and apply a library to ALL swatches in the mixer, like now. BUT also be able to individually choose a separate library for each swatch if I want.

3. Add a default option that lets you choose whether or not edges are shown.

   I print labels and we require proof approval from customers. This means the files I end up using ultimately get opened by at least 3 people. Any number of these people can save the files so that edges are hidden, however, on my end, I always want edges shown so I can better see where they are in relation to the white cut box (FXCUT) that's against the white background. I also maintain our proof templates, which, similarly, ends up being opened by multiple people.

   The idea I propose is that there be a global default setting for each iteration of illustrator on any given account that allows that specific user to have edges shown all the time, none of the time, or on a file by file basis.

4. Customize Export Formats

   I use only two export formats on a regular basis. It would be nice if could disable the formats I don't use. It is cumbersome to have to scroll through all the formats every time I use them. In older AI versions, each format was like a plug-in file that could be removed if not being used. It would also be nice if individual formats could be assigned keyboard shortcuts.

5. Bigger / resizable text field for artboard names

   The size of the text input field for the artboard names is often too short - so when I want to change the last bit of an artboard name (often for a modifier like ...white, ...dark etc.), I have to marquee / hit arrow or end key to get there. That makes renaming more complicated than necessary.

6. Allow to customize created dimensions more: move and style text, reposition lines, change units and scale, etc.

   The functionality of the Dimension Tool needs to be improved. I think this tool should be made even more customizable. Example: Numbers and fonts should be able to move, rotate, change its style (add stroke or box it). We need to be able to easily change the units of measurement directly in the settings of the tool itself. Also lines with dimensions should be able to move arbitrarily (up and down) with Direct Selection Tool.

8. Tracing with machine learning, Sensei, or something similar

   My question is: Is there is any program or chance that the illustrator trace will use less points and be more accurate?
   I love using the illustrator and I love tracing pictures with hand, but sometimes I just don't have the time or the energy to do it manually and the available trace solution is just not 10/10 for die cut lines and sometimes logo recreations (when the customer can send only a 100x100 pixel file, because of reasons).
   If there was a chance you made something that would check, analyse, and learn from my (and other volunteers') manual tracings for the pictures used, i would LOVE to be a contributor.

   The point is to use less points, more accurate curves and don't know what else should be more refined. Maybe the colours?

   So please Illustrator team buy strong machines that could learn this by analysing hand tracing!
   (Don't know how these work. Maybe send out 50 BW pictures and 50 coloured ones to the participants and gather the info?)

   Illustrator already allows users to customize hotkeys with Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts dialog. There are many restrictions users have with it, but perhaps you meant something specific. Please elaborate.

10. Make it easier to find the handles needed to move text around a circular shape.

    It's so tough to find just the right place to hover in order to get the handle you need to drag the start/end points of text when placing it on a path, especially a round one. Seems like there's an easier way (maybe holding down a particular key while you click the anchor?)

11. Keyboard shortcut to invoke the search box under the Help menu

    I swear there used to be a keyboard shortcut to do this. Given the relative complexity of Illustrator, I rely on search to locate less frequently performed actions. I currently navigate by mouse up to the Help menu (which automatically gives the Search field focus), where I type in the first few characters of the action I wish to perform (results are refined as I type in more characters); this way, I can simply select the action I want right from the Help menu. It would be great if I could forego the mouse entirely and invoke that Help menu with a keyboard shortcut, but I'm unable to find one (and that search box doesn't show up as an option under Help when I attempt to add a custom shortcut). Any ideas? I'm on a Mac.

    You definitely can assign a hotkey for Discover, using Keyboard Shortcuts dialog, in Menu Commands.

    The problem though it’s named as 'Illustrator Help' there, not 'Discover'. By default it uses F1.

13. Kinda like... 9-slice symbol scaling, more like, locked side scaling

    9-slice symbol scaling works FOR CORNERS. But can you make it so that the TOP, BOTTOM, OR SIDES can stay in place and you can just make the length of an item longer? It's not always about Rounded corners, sometimes it's about an ARCHED TOP or CURVED SIDE, which is static but box needs to grow. This is important to me because I'm in signage and every template we work with can be for example: 6" wide or 8" wide and vary in length or width. So that we do not have to re-draw every shape, or hand extend every box, it would be great if there was a "tool" to keep the template in "easy access" that can be easily modified to length or width without modifying the artistic shape, like arch on top which distorts if you don't grab the points. Consequently, it's also hard to hit an exact 8" measurement when making it bigger by pulling out the points without zooming in, you always get a random 8.023" (perhaps this is another setting I need to adjust but, in one grouped way it works, on this subject, when enlarged, it is better when the numbers are 8" not 8.023". As we are using trying to obtain a yield from a sheet of material.

14. Change how lock and hide work

    Сan you adjust how hiding layers vs locking layers works?

    Lock should prevent edits of any kind.

    Hide should allow edits if the master group or layer are adjusted.

    Example: Character Animator makes us hide Illustrator layers for various poses, mouths, etc. All the mouths are in a head group. If I move a head group with hidden layers, those layers don't move with the group. They should move. They should just not be seen while doing it because they are not locked.

    If hide works this way, can you explain the difference between lock and hide?

    Free Perspective & Free Distort should be there own tools with shortcuts (or that we can make custom shortcuts for), or a way to quickly filter through by hitting a key to get to the option needed (ie you hit E to bring up free transform, then hit E to select alt options like Free Perspective & Free Distort) having to scroll over to a tiny panel to select which I want to use is time that could be saved. I know the panel floats, but having to open Free Transform then move the panel near what I need, then if I use it later it's now in the way so I have to move it again. It's just a lot of a added hassle. I think it might be better that they are their own tolls like with Shear, Skew, Rotate etc. The holding shift just as with the other tools constrains proportions so that extra click is also probably not needed. To sum I think it would be great if we had a Free Transform, Free Perspective, & Free Distort as individual tools instead of the latter two being only in a panel widget connected to the Free Transform tool.     Often in pattern maker, designers find themselves boggled at how its magic works, and tend to resort to legacy features and clipping masks as a solve for how to make a pattern repeat in this feature. Even when used properly an incorrect overlap may appear that can seem challenging to resolve. I am currently working on a hex repeat, that only shows an overlap when tiled at 5x5 and was a head scratcher to some of the team. In general this is easily solved by selecting and moving the distance of the swatch, but to identify these shapes can be a bit of a task since they're just virtual copies, but if they were selectable with a modifier key, it would make these easier to resolve. Bonus points if a move key is added to move a selection the exact height, width etc. of the tile.

17. Path selection sensitivity in Illustrator

    You've finally made the node & anchor point sizes adjustable - HURRAY! However now when trying to directly select a path, i instead have to click on an area NEAR it but not ON it, so as not to pick up the other nearby paths. Furthermore, instead of being able to click in a blank area and drag my selection tool to pick up the paths Id like, it picks up everything near enough to where I've clicked in that blank space. It NEVER used to do that. Ive tried adjusting all the settings to no avail. its like now the sensitivity of the selection tool is off!?!?! Instead of being able to directly select what Im clicking ON, it'll pickup everything ELSE near it, and NOT the path Im actually trying TO selelct!!!!

    In the 3 examples I've attached (one file) you can clearly see where I've clicked with my cursor and which path it picks up. *Sorry for the moire screen effect, it was the only way I could get a pic of where the cursor was placed as well (screen shot would not pick up the cursor).

18. Keyboard Increment per document type

    Under Preferences > General it is possible to set the "keyboard increment" - how far each tap of an arrow key moves the selected art. The problem is, I want this to be different depending on what I'm doing.

    It would suit me ideally if I could set the keyboard increment to 5mm when working on a print document (CMYK/300DPI) and 10px when working on a digital document (RGB/72DPI).

19. Accents / Diacritics accessibility

    i'm using Illustrator and I need to type in Portuguese/Spanish so i need to use accents like áàê

    Everywhere else on Mac OS if I long press the key I get an accent pop up, like this:

    In Illustrator, this never shows up.

    I know there are workarounds (glyphs window, other mac shortcuts and keyboard viewer) but none of those is practical.
    That accent pop up is shown everywhere else in the system except for Illustrator, which is very frustrating

20. Enhanced Shape Builder Tool

    Something that would be enormously helpful and prevent a lot of unnecessary backtracking would be expanding on the capabilities of the shape builder tool in three key ways, though if any are possible, the first one would be most helpful.

    1. Allow the use of the shapebuilder tool on objects contained in a mask.

    2. Allow the shape builder tool to operate on an object outside of a mask using objects inside a mask

    3. Allow for selective use of shape builder tool on specific objects in a group without ungrouping.
