1. 2D Extrude

   I would like a 2D extrude feature. For example...

   1. Draw a box and add extra points to it.
   2. Select every other set of two points (i.e. segments) and pull them so they extrude out (instead of bend - or have the choice of bend OR extrude), perpendicular to the line they're on.

   Currently I have to duplicate and rotate and then merge... I'd rather like to be able to pull out extruded segments without having to do it manually.

   Boom! great idea, thanks for adding my name to the next release with this new tool. If you don't understand this idea I'd be happy to draw it out for you in a diagram...

2. Warp Effect Not Working

   I've noticed that ever since upgrading to Illustrator CC 2018 (22.0.1) that the Warp Effect doesn't seem to work properly. The Arc and Arch effects will work, but applying any of the Flag, Wave, Fish or Rise effects won't change the object at all.

   Thank you to all who shared their files. We do not support flag, fish effects on a straight line with just two anchor points. The feature is implemented to work on the line segment which is not straight.

3. The "new update" popup message is gross

   A. Add a "don't show this again" checkbox because I don't want to be reminded later nor do I want to update on anything but my own terms.

   B. Add a space between the period and "Know more..."

   C. Choose a different call to action that isn't "Know more" because what?

   D. Actually just don't show popups for anything. I pay you to draw vector lines and that's about it.

4. CC Libraries import - unnecessary extra clicks and groups.

   In the previous version, to bring a library element in you simple alt-dragged it and, upon releasing it, it would be in. Now there's an extra click to place the thing, which is totally unnecessary and annoying.

   Also, library items appear inside a group which isn't in the file itself. Also unnecessary and annoying. Please set these features back to how they were before (just a simple alt-drag-release to place a library item, and no extra grouping).

5. Remove Local Overrides button for Paragraph and Character Styles

   InDesign has it, Illustrator should too.

   Just a single local change, like font colour, and the text looses its paragraph style. The link might still be active since there is a + shown in the paragraph styles window, but changes in the style does not effect the locally changed text anymore.

   Maybe this is wanted, but I would love a Remove Local Overrides button like the one in InDesign. It resets all local changes and forces the paragraph style back on the text. Even with multiple textboxes with multiple styles selected.

7. Numerate / Numbering / Sequential numbers / Number sequence / Auto-serialize

   As a function of the transform tool, or perhaps a tool in it's own right, a feature to numerate copies in sequence and/or apply fully scanning bar or QR codes. E.g. raffle tickets, concert tickets, coupons, vouchers, etc.

   This would be invaluable as a time-saving measure, and allow an artist/designer to keep something like tickets completely in-house. I've been working with Illustrator for 15 years, and to my knowledge there's no feature that does anything like this. When I design concert or raffle tickets I have to use a 3rd party vendor, pretty much just for the bar code and sequencing. The ability to number things seems like a natural extension of the Transform tool.

8. Select non-default eGPU for hardware acceleration

   We use external GPUs as provided to us by Apple in the External Graphics Development Kit and want to use these eGPUs instead of default GPUs built into the MacBooks.

9. Use Key Object to allow precise control for in-back and in-front level changes

   Allow Key Object to define which object is moved and which object is used to define movement. If I select two objects and then highlight one as a key object, it would be nice to use the same hotkeys for "send to back" and "send to front" and have it only work in relation to the two selected objects, putting the keyed object either directly in front of or behind in the layer order of the other object.

   As it is now, the hotkeys either work too much by sending objects all they way to the back or front, or too little by requiring a one layer change per use. On builds with many objects/layers this just feels inefficient and clumsy. Adding in the Key Object feature would allow users to have a second level of functionality and quickly place a layer exactly where they want it quickly, using a feature that is already in place to give them more precise control over object placement.

   Thanks for a great product and the years of creative expression it has provided!

10. Illustrator - PDF Export Cropmarks

    Illustrator really needs a usefull cropmark export option in the pdf export dialougue. just like InDesign. I mean it looks similar to InDesign but its simply not working! who needs cropmarks up to 15 mm long?? why cant i edit the length, width.. etc?. Please make this function usefull!! asap

11. Make Select Art button more evident

    I periodically see designers, with serious (albeit cheerful) faces, boldly clicking the 'round button' in Layers to 'select everything on the layer.'

    And while the button indeed 'selects' everything on a layer, it also selects the layer itself — targets it really, for applying a layer-specific appearance.

    Take a look at this GIF attached.
    If I select Layer 2 (with the green squares) like this, and then apply the Round Corners effect, all the new squares in the layer will have round corners.
    Sure, everything is visible in the Appearance palette.
    Sure, everything is written in the pop-up hints.

    The round ones are for appearance. We need to click to the right of the circle instead, where the square markers are drawn — these are there to mark selection... AND allow selection.

    It’s a very common mistake (like confusing windshield wipers and turn signals)...
    And I think I know why it happens. I’m convinced that it is psychologically easier to click a circle — that looks more like a button, — than an empty space where a square appears (when clicked).
    Recently some accessibility changes were introduced into Ai, and now things we can click in most panels gets highlighted slightly on hover — but not these square-to-be spots! Even when there are square markers there!

    So please make these more pronounced.

    I love appearance dearly, but selecting all in a layer / sublayer / group is a far more common procedure users do. And discovering something called 'appearance' was the source of many problems with art’s colors is not a good way to meet this power.

12. Pin individual color chips in Recent Colors sections

    Recently Ai added Recent Color sections (the request: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/44772598) to Swatches and Color panels (with an ability to disable them — thanks!)

    Some choices these remember are more important than others — but not enough to be included into the actual Swatches panel. For example, I have a Magenta global color I sometimes want to be added into certain projects, when needed. Pinning it in Recent would allow me to quickly grab it, without dancing with Persistent panels.
    Or I could have pinned a brand color of a client I often work with, and have it there.

    I’d like to have an ability to hold Opt/Alt or Shift and pin a recent chip with a click.

13. Text accessibility checker

    It would be great if adobe design tools provided a built in checker or warning system for type that does not meet the 4:5:1 standard for contrast. Currently I have to use third party tools to verify that the colors have enough contrast. Would be great if I could do that right in that app or if a warning popped up similar to overset text.

14. Add Black and White color chips in Color Picker dialog in Color Models mode

    For some reason, the Color Picker dialog is the default way of setting a color in several color induced effects: Drop Shadow, Inner and Outer Glow.

    Most of times these effects are used, we need to toggle between black and white. These are more or less OK to pick quickly, if we change the mode of the dialog to Color Swatches.

    But each time this dialog is called when editing a color for the effect, the dialog open in the first mode, Color Models.
    And to set black or white in this mode we need to click the spectrum field and drag the point into a corner. You get accustomed to this, and realize you can move the mouse beyond the the dialog, making the precision gesture 'infinite' — and this is what MANY users do, if you watch tutorials or timelapses.

    But this is bullshit. We just need black and white, without fiddling with the spectrum. More of it, in a CMYK document setting black like this would make it rich black, and not K100 — which one would have to set manually, by typing it.

    Since there is a request about adding Recent Colors, perhaps into Swatches or Color (http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/44772598), perhaps we should be given an option to see these in Color Picker as well (a lot of users prefer it to Color+Swatches panels). In this case, just make Black and White always there, as a fixed choices.

    Another solution would be just to display the same 'Color UI' used for any other place in Ai, the Swatches + Color Mixer (minus Gradient and Generative Pattern, obviously).

15. Make USEFUL hover hints for ALL the options, fields, menu commands

    Clearly the team doesn’t really care about making hover hints to be a learning tool.

    Rarely these actually try to say what an option or a field does or controls: like 'Start editing similar shapes together' for the 'Global Edit' button in the Control panel, or 'Click to pick arrowhead to apply to start point of path' in Stroke panel...

    But in most cases the hint is extremely rudimentary.
    Try to hover the 'W' field in Transform panel — you’d get 'W value'. W?! Weight? Wand? Why not say 'Width Value', or even 'Set Width for the selected objects'?

    Then again — why do you caption only icons, but not something like menu commands? Why can’t a new user hover over Select > Start Global Edit and get a short explanation (especially with rich tooltips enabled)?

    Why Scale Corners in Transform has a decent hint, but Scale Strokes & Effects — none at all?

    Why can’t you make hover hints have several lines of text, if needed?
    Take a look at how a carefully written hint for a plugin option suffers from being restricted to one line?

    OK, if you’re afraid of flashing with large cards (the main reason why people hate rich tooltips) — why can’t you make these hints display a shorter version, but give a detailed one after a pause, like the attached GIF shows (from a 3DS Max)? Two second delay is a bit too large, to my taste, but it’s there!

    Why can’t every item in Preferences have a hover hint?

16. Don’t require hitting Find before Replace All becomes active in Find and Replace dialog

    Illustrator’s Find and Replace dialog is bad.
    One of the issues is that we can’t immediately Replace All after we enter text. We have to press Find first.

    Why? If it’s nothing to replace — replace nothing (and perhaps show a message, preferably a shy one, not a clunky modal dialog).

17. Allow to show contents (unfurl) of compound paths in Layers

    Illustrator treats a compound path as a single entity, no matter how many singular paths it has inside.

    Layers panel does not display '>' next to the name of it, and does not allow to unfurl the item to see what it has inside.

    It makes sense in a way, since the order of items does not matter (it is for a Compound Shapes, where it matters a lot, with e.g. 'Minus Front').

    At the same time, we can still select a subpath of a compound path with the Group Selection tool, and use Object > Arrange commands (even though there is no visible result when we do that).

    But having these in a Layers tree can help.
    We can quickly evaluate the number of children objects, their own shapes with thumbnail previews rendered, quickly select one we need there and not on canvas... after all, it’s not something like a Dimension Object, which is a complex construct, not intended for direct editing, but a basic universal object, created to be edited!

    There are other limitations with subpaths of a compound path...

18. Add a slider to Color Guide panel to change the number of steps

    Color Guide panel allows to change the number of steps (4 by default), through Color Guide Options dialog, called through the panel’s flyout menu. Buried rather deeply!

20. Angular Smart Guides for everything, similar to those Snap to Glyph has

    There is a lesser known Snap to Glyph command in context menu, which allow you to snap to any live glyph under cursor. It requires Smart Guides and Snap tp Glyph commands enabled (and Snap to Grid disabled).

    Once you enter the mode, the chosen glyph is highlighted with a rectangle, and you are able to construct new art relative to points of this live glyph, as if it was outlined.
    These guides are green, similar to normal Glyph Guides, but some guides are unique to this mode, like the 'angular' one — which allows us to build on a continuation of an existing straight line — similar to what 'Line Extension' smart guide does (when not broken).

    This guide is missing in a non-glyph world, and it’s rather cool, and we’d benefit from having it for everything else, for all other tools: Pen, Selection, Scale... Please make it happen and add it as a n option in Preferences > Smart Guides.
