2. Illustrator 30.8: ExtendScript debugger cannot attach — ESTK endpoint never responds

   Summary

   In Illustrator 30.8.0, the Adobe ExtendScript Debugger extension for VS Code (v2.1.0) can no longer attach to or launch scripts. Rolling back to 30.7.0 fixes it completely, with no other change to VS Code, the extension, or the launch configuration — so this is a regression introduced between 30.7 and 30.8.

   The failure is narrow and specific: in 30.8, Illustrator's ExtendScript debug (#estk) channel accepts the debugger's <connect/> handshake but never sends any response. The message is delivered successfully — the core library returns status: 0 with a valid serial number — and then nothing comes back, indefinitely.

   In 30.7 the identical request returns the engine list in ~600ms.

   Everything else about Illustrator scripting is healthy in 30.8:

   • Scripts run normally from File > Scripts and via AppleScript do javascript.
   • Illustrator answers ordinary BridgeTalk messages in well under a second.
   • ScriptingSupport.aip is loaded, and the debug API is still present in the binary.

   Only the debugger's channel is dead.

   1. On macOS with Illustrator 30.8 installed, launch Illustrator.
   2. In VS Code, install the Adobe ExtendScript Debugger extension (v2.1.0).
   3. Use this launch configuration — the exact configuration that works correctly under 30.7:

   Expected Result

   The debugger attaches and Illustrator returns its engine list, as it does under 30.7:

   Actual Result

   Under 30.8 the debug session never establishes. Illustrator sends no response of any kind to the <connect/> request. The request does not error — it simply never completes.

   Evidence

   All probes below were run through the extension's own native core (esdebugger-core/mac/esdcorelibinterface.node, from ExtendScript Debugger 2.1.0), loaded into VS Code's Electron runtime and driven with the same esdSendDebugMessage / esdPumpSession calls the extension itself makes. This removes VS Code, launch configurations, and the extension UI from the picture entirely.

   1. The <connect/> handshake — 30.7 vs 30.8

   Illustrator 30.7 — works:

   Identical machine, identical VS Code, identical extension build, identical call. The only variable is the Illustrator version.

   2. InDesign as a same-machine control

   InDesign, probed in the same session while Illustrator 30.8 was failing, responds immediately:

   3. Application discovery is not the problem

   Under both 30.7 and 30.8 the core reports Illustrator as installed and running, under the same specifier:

   BridgeTalk.appSpecifier, queried from inside Illustrator, returns illustrator-30.064 in both versions. The specifier does not change across the 30.x line.

   4. Illustrator's ordinary BridgeTalk messaging is fine in 30.8

   A full BridgeTalk round-trip sent from InDesign to Illustrator 30.8 succeeds normally:

   Illustrator is reachable and responsive on the normal messaging channel. Only the debug channel is silent. (Round-trip latency rises to 8–18s when Illustrator is backgrounded, which appears to be ordinary background throttling and is not the cause — the debug channel returns nothing even with Illustrator frontmost.)

   5. The ExtendScript engine is identical to InDesign's

   Not an engine-version mismatch between app and debugger.

   6. The debug API is still present in Illustrator 30.8's binary

   AdobeExtendScript.framework inside Illustrator 30.8 still exports the full debug surface — ScScript::DebugAPI::command, setBreakpoints, getStackTrace, getContextInfo, debugBreak, enterDebugMode / leaveDebugMode, and others. Illustrator exports more debug symbols than InDesign (60 vs 35).

   ScriptingSupport.aip is present and confirmed loaded into the running process:

   /Applications/Adobe Illustrator 2026/Adobe Illustrator.app/Contents/
       Required/Plug-ins/Extensions/ScriptingSupport.aip/Contents/MacOS/ScriptingSupport
   

   The capability is compiled in and loaded; it simply does not answer.

   7. Not a "no active engine" condition

   The handshake was repeated while a script was actively executing inside Illustrator 30.8 (a 25-second $.sleep), in case the debug endpoint only materialises alongside a live engine:

   Impact

   In 30.8, ExtendScript debugging is completely unavailable — no breakpoints, no stepping, no variable inspection, no watch expressions. For anyone maintaining non-trivial Illustrator scripts this removes the only real debugging tool, leaving $.writeln logging and alert-based tracing as the only options.

   The Adobe ExtendScript Debugger is the officially supported successor to the ExtendScript Toolkit, so there is no alternative debugger to fall back on.

   Workaround

   Roll back to Illustrator 30.7 (Creative Cloud → Other Versions).

3. Space characters differ in Illustrator and InDesign

   OS: MacOS 15.7.7 (24G720)
   Illustrator-Version: 30.6
   Illustrator offers the space characters Quarter, Half-quarter, Twenty-fourth, Eighth.
   Using these space characters in Adobe Illustrator leads to completely different results (spacing) than in Adobe InDesign.
   Is this a program error or a font error?
   I would also like to see the space characters menu expanded to include the Sixth, Eighth, Quarter, Third.

4. Memory usage continuously increases over time in Illustrator 2026 and is not released properly (macOS M4 Max)

   Workflow

   I use Illustrator as a visual reference board containing an extremely large archive of linked images (not embedded). I arrange thousands of reference images on large canvases to compare composition, color, style, motion, and visual ideas. This workflow is essential for my art direction and animation production because spatial comparison is much more efficient than browsing images individually.

   Illustrator 2026 performs significantly faster than Illustrator 2025 with this workflow, which is a great improvement.

   Issue

   I compared the same Illustrator file in both Illustrator 2025 and Illustrator 2026.

   Immediately after opening the same file:
   - Illustrator 2025 uses approximately 5.5 GB of memory.
   - Illustrator 2026 uses approximately 24.2 GB of memory.

   This higher initial memory usage seems acceptable because Illustrator 2026 performs much faster.

   However, after approximately 30 minutes of normal work on the same file, Illustrator 2026's memory usage continuously increases to approximately 77.5 GB, while swap memory reaches approximately 29 GB.

   No additional Illustrator documents were opened during this period. I simply continued working with the same file.

   In previous tests, I also observed that even after closing all documents and leaving only a new blank document open, Illustrator continued to retain a very large amount of memory. Memory was only released after quitting and restarting Illustrator.

   Illustrator 2025 is slower with the same workflow, but it does not show this continuous memory growth.

   This behavior appears to be a memory leak or cached memory that is not being released correctly.

   I attached two screenshots:
   1. Immediately after opening the same Illustrator file.
   2. Approximately 30 minutes later while working with the same file.

   Please investigate this behavior, especially for workflows involving very large linked-image reference libraries used for visual comparison in art direction, animation, concept art, and design.

5. Linked Images approximately above 268 megapixels render blank in illustrator (macOS)

   I have identified what appears to be an undocumented rendering limitation or bug affecting very large linked raster images in Adobe Illustrator.
   Illustrator successfully creates the link and the object appears in the document, however the linked image renders completely blank. No warning or error message is displayed.
   After extensive testing, the behaviour appears to correlate only with the total pixel count of an individual linked image, rather than file format, colour mode, GPU settings or computer hardware.
   The behaviour has also been reproduced on other Macs with different hardware specifications.

   Image Details

   Original image:
   TIFF
   8-bit
   CMYK
   72ppi
   LZW compression (also tested with ZIP and Uncompressed)
   Linked (not embedded)

   The issue also occurs when saved as:
   PSD
   PSB

   Expected Result
   The linked image should display correctly.

   Actual Result
   The image link is created successfully.
   The image occupies the correct size on the artboard.
   The Links panel reports no errors.
   However, the image itself is completely blank.
   No warning or error message is displayed.

   Troubleshooting Performed

   The following changes did not resolve the issue:

   TIFF → PSD
   TIFF → PSB
   RGB instead of CMYK
   CMYK instead of RGB

   ZIP compression

   Resampling the image below approximately 260–267 megapixels consistently restores normal behaviour.
   Changing only the image dimensions while keeping the total pixel count similar does not affect the result.
   This suggests the limitation is based on total pixels per linked image, rather than width or height.

   Why I believe this is a bug

   If Illustrator has a maximum supported raster size, I would expect:
   an error message when placing the image,
   or a warning that the image exceeds the supported limit.

   Instead, Illustrator:
   accepts the file,
   creates a valid link,
   displays the correct object size,
   but renders the image completely blank.

   This behaviour makes it difficult to determine whether the file is corrupt or whether Illustrator has exceeded an internal rendering limit.

   Suggested Improvement

   If there is an internal maximum raster size, Illustrator should:
   document the limitation,
   warn the user when placing the file,
   or generate a reduced-resolution preview while preserving the full-resolution linked image for output.

   A blank image with no warning is misleading and difficult to diagnose.

   I've used chat CPT to diagnose this issue as I couldn't see anyone reporting the same issue.

6. Generate vectors fails but still takes my credits

   Generate vectors fails with the following error: "Cannot generate results due to connection issues. Please check your internet and try again." My internet is working perfectly (see speedtest attached). What annoys me the most is that it says it can't generate but still takes my credits. I have used this feature before multiple times. Why is it doing this when my connection is perfect? Please can my credits be refunded as this is not acceptable. Thank you.

   Result wanted vs actual - I expected a vector version of my image but I just got the error and my credits deducted.

7. Memory error after exporting in EPS (ID -108)

   On Illustrator 30.6 every time I export a multipage file to eps format, every artboard as a single file, the file exported are ok, but if I return to the original AI file to save the changes I receive a memory error (see the screenshot) then is not possible to save the AI file no more, and I have to use the SAVE AS command to save a new AI document from the original.
   This bug appeared in Illustrator 30.6

8. Adobe Illustrator 2026 Crashes with Uncompressed TIFF (Compression: None)

   Dear Adobe Illustrator Engineering Team,

   I am reporting what appears to be a compatibility regression or TIFF parsing issue that causes Adobe Illustrator to crash consistently when opening documents containing specific TIFF images saved with Compression = None (Uncompressed TIFF).

   Adobe Illustrator 2026 on Windows
   Standard TIFF, no compression
   Interleaved (RGBRGB) pixel order
   IBM PC (Little Endian) byte order

   Illustrator crashes immediately when opening or placing TIFF files saved without compression.

   The same files become fully functional after being re-saved using LZW compression, without any changes to image content, dimensions, color mode, bit depth, or metadata.

   This behavior strongly suggests that the issue is related to Illustrator's handling of the uncompressed TIFF encoding path, rather than the image data itself.

   Reproduction Steps
   1. Create or export a TIFF image.
   2. Save using:
   Compression: None
   Standard TIFF format
   Place the TIFF into an Illustrator document, or open an existing Illustrator file containing the TIFF.
   Illustrator immediately crashes or closes without warning.

   Control Test
   1. Open the same TIFF file in Photoshop.
   2. Re-save the file using:
   Compression: LZW
   Reopen the Illustrator document.

   Result: Illustrator opens normally and the image is rendered correctly.

   Expected Behavior
   Adobe Illustrator should maintain compatibility with TIFF files saved using Compression: None, as this is part of the TIFF specification and has historically been a standard format used in:

   Print production
   Publishing workflows
   Archival imaging
   Legacy design projects
   Prepress environments
   Actual Behavior
   Immediate application crash.
   No meaningful error message is displayed.
   The issue is fully reproducible.
   Switching only the TIFF compression method from None to LZW resolves the problem.
   Business Impact

   This issue has a significant impact on long-term project compatibility.

   My organization maintains a large archive of historical design projects that contain numerous TIFF assets saved without compression. These files were created over many years and remain part of active production workflows.

   Because Illustrator cannot reliably open these files, we are forced to:

   Locate the original TIFF assets.
   Batch-convert legacy images.
   Rebuild or repair historical project files.

   This creates unnecessary production delays and introduces risk to archived projects that should remain fully compatible with current Adobe software.

   Technical Observation

   Based on testing, the crash appears specifically linked to TIFF files using:

   Compression = None (Uncompressed)

   while TIFF files using:

   LZW
   ZIP

   appear to function normally.

   This may indicate an issue in Illustrator's TIFF decoding routine, memory allocation process, or compatibility handling for uncompressed raster data.

   Request

   Could the Illustrator engineering team please:

   Investigate support for uncompressed TIFF files.
   Verify whether this behavior is a known issue or regression.
   Restore compatibility with TIFF images saved using Compression: None.
   Provide guidance regarding any temporary workaround beyond manual conversion of legacy assets.

   I would be happy to provide sample TIFF files and crash logs if needed to assist with debugging and reproduction.

9. Saving as SVG changed in 30.5.1 and no longer respects artboard

   Beginning with version 30.5.1 (apparently), the full size of the artboard is no longer used when saving to SVG, but instead the bounds are reduced to fit the artwork. This is breaking my workflow with tools used downstream where I need the fixed sized artboard that I'm using. I reverted to version 30.4, and the problem went away.

10. New proofread feature finds that dummy text is violating the community guidelines

    This is more fun that a real problem, but some people may be irritated that the new proofread function finds words that violate the community guidelines when used on standard "Lorem ipsum ..." dummy text. ;-)

    Maybe this should be whitelistet somehow.

11. 書き出し時の同名ファイルの警告が出ない

    png、jpgでの書き出しのとき、すでに同じファイル名がある場合に警告メッセージが出なくなり、そのまま上書きされてしまいます。
    上書きの警告メッセージの出し方、またはそれ自体が無くなったのであれば、改善していただきたいです。ver30.5.1です。
    ちなみに、ネットでいろいろ調べると「環境設定」に「書き出し」があるとか出てくるのですが、その書き出し自体の項目も無くなっています。

    It’s a Windows-only bug, not specific to the latest build.

    As soon as anything changes, someone from the team would leave a comment or update the status of the report.

13. Exporting To SVG Format

    Illustrator 30.2.1 has a consistent SVG exporting bug. I created some images containing gradients. When I export to SVG the first time, AI will create a correct SVG file. However, subsequent exports, AI will leave out all gradients. If I close the file and reopen it, the cycle repeats.

14. W-Hの数値がリンクアイコンがアクティブなのにリンクしない

    1. Illustratorを起動して、新規ドキュメントを開き、アートボード上に矩形を描く。
    2. コントロールバーのWをクリックしてパネルを展開する。
    3. Wの欄に数値を入力し、タブキーでHに移る。
    4. リンクアイコンがアクティブになっているにも関わらずWとHの数値がリンクしない。親元のコントロールバーでは正常にリンクしている。

    期待する結果
    リンクアイコンの表示どおりWとHの値がリンクする。

    実際の結果
    片方の入力にもう一方が追随しない。

    代替の手順。
    数字を入力する前にアクティブになっているリンクアイコンをクリックしてオフにし、再度クリックしてリンクをアクティブにする。
    起動後１度だけこの手順を行うと以降は正常に動作する。

    Alternative Procedure.
    Before entering numbers, click the active link icon to turn it off, then click it again to reactivate the link.

    The issue seems to visible at our end after closing the Illustrator and reopening the file. However, it is just the value does not get updated in the pop up panel. The transformation change on the object happens fine and is reflected properly in the properties panel as well. Let us know if you are experience similar behavior or not.

15. PDF with negative values for BleedBox, MediaBox shows incorrectly

    A PDF with negative values for the lower left corner of BleedBox, MediaBox and a TrimBox that has its lower left corner at (0,0) shows differently in Illustrator and Acrobat. Acrobat (and other PDF viewers) show the contents as expected, in Illustrator the content seems shifted.

    The attached example PDF has three different pages, the first two pages look as expected, the last page (with the negative values) does not look the same in Illustrator and Acrobat.

16. Document Raster Effects settings not being honored on all affected objects

    Illustrator 30.1 on MacOS 14.6.1
    Changing the Document Raster Effects settings used to affect all objects with pixel effects, at current it appears not to anymore and one has to manually force an update of the Drop Shadow effect for example.

17. Dragging a guide with Real-Time Drawing and Editing mode enabled makes black or cyan edges appear for all objects

    I'm not sure if this is a possible feature, if so please let me know for what I can use it. Otherwise I would like to report it.

    For example the following explanation:
    I place some retangles on the artboard. Two objects get a color filling and the third one is filled with white. I use a ruler on one of the colored objects. When I drag the same ruler again, the white object appears and all object have a black stroke. When I drag a second ruler the white object does not appear. If I grab the second ruler again, the white object appears again. And so on, no matter how many rulers there are.

    I took a Screenrecord to show you. Looking forward to hear from you guys.

18. Spot swatch color is not saved correctly when changing the color of an existing swatch

    1. Details of your operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (10.0.19045 Build 19045)

    2. The version of Adobe Illustrator (desktop): 30.0

    3. The steps you were taking when you experienced the issues:
       Create a new document, add a spot swatch and set the color to 100% cyan (or any color). Apply this spot swatch to an object, like a rectangle for example. Save the document as an .ai file. Then, change the color of the spot swatch to a different color (for example 100% yellow, or any color). Save the document again as an .ai file. Open the document in Acrobat.

    4. Your expected result and the actual result:
       Expected result is that the rectangle in the file when opened in Acrobat should be 100% yellow, following the example above, or whatever the spot swatch color was changed to. Actual result is that the rectangle remains the original color when the document was first saved. If the spot swatch is changed, then copied into a new document then it displays correctly when saved.

    5. Upload your Illustrator file or a video (screen recording or gif, this helps us most to reproduce the issue and resolve it)
       Open the file in Illustrator and the rectangle is yellow. Open the file in Acrobat and the rectangle is cyan.

    Why does this matter? Many production printing RIPs use the embedded PDF data in the .ai file. If the spot swatch color data is not being updated correctly on a subsequent file save this causes issues in production workflows.

19. Cannot Save as New File in v30

    Using the latest version of Adobe Illustrator (2026 version?)

    Trying to "save as new" but the save window does not load completely and then button shapes inside disappear and remains in this state. The only thing you can do is close the box.

    The team has identified an issue for a small subset of users who are on the Windows operating system and also have their network traffic routed through a proxy.

    A temporary solution to this issue is the following:

    1. Open up PowerShell
    2. Copy and paste the following commands:

    cd "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2026"$env:WEBVIEW2_ADDITIONAL_BROWSER_ARGUMENTS = "--use-system-proxy-resolver"& '.\Illustrator.exe'

20. Gradient panel bug

    I can't scroll in the Gradient panel like in the Libraries panel where i can see the other options or like the Properties panel when there's more options, but the space is not enough, but you can scroll so you can see the rest. And also the little panel where you can see the default styles of gradients is taken so much space and you can't minimize that space, that could be good, or just leave a line where you can see a limited or recent styles chosen but then you can click so it expands and shows you the entire library.
