"File --> New" or "Ctrl+N" fails to create new file in Illustrator 22.0.1 (64-bit)
After opening Illustrator, I'm only able to open existing files. Trying to create a new file by clicking "File --> New" in the menu, or clicking "Ctrl+N" results in a brief pause, but no new artboard or new file appears.

I wonder if enabling 'Use Legacy File New interface' in Preferences > General helps.
Also, please check if hitting Ctrl/Cmd + Alt +N works to instantly create a new document with no dialog shown, and if assigning a custom hotkey for the 'File > New' in Edit > Keyboards Shortcuts allows then to call it (to see if there is a problem with the modern dialog itself, or just its hotkey). -

AI will not create file / new. Will not create a new file, will only open existing files. As well on my system.
