Cannot open .ai files after update. Windows 10

After new October update for Illustrator CC 2019, I can no longer open .ai files? I get the 'how to you want to open this file?' window appear.

If I right click .ai file > properties > opens with, change. and select the correct Illustrator it still does not change!

    Since the 2020 update I can't set illustrator as the default app for .ai file types on windows. Also can't open .ai files from a file explorer. Can only open them from inside illustrator using file>open command
