Illustrator freezes after trying to paste an HD-picture from the clipboard into Area Type
Trying to paste HD-picture from the clipboard in area type text block - Illustrator perceives the picture as a set of characters and can not cope with the amount of information.
Expected result: The action should not have a visible result, or there should be a warning about an invalid action
- Open Illustrator
- Open some of HD resolution pictures (PNG, JPG) in the Illustrator
- Select the picture (CMD+A)
- Embed the picture if it is linked
- Copy the picture (CMD+C)
- Select the Text Tool, and make one-click anywhere in a workspace of the document to start a text block.
- Paste from clipboard (CMD+V)
Result: Illustrator freezes. Force quit only possible.

Illustrator does not allow pasting images into text.
But it does support SVG format, and when an image is copied, Ai prepares it to be pasted into apps that support SVG, as SVG code. So when you are in text editing mode and try to paste, Ai honestly (and a bit dumbly) pasted the code there.
I’d say it should not do this, sure.
And a workaround (except for not trying to paste these like this) would be to disable the Include SVG Code on Copy in Preferences > Clipboard Handling altogether.
