Black versions of color fonts are no longer accessible
EmojiOne font B&W fallback version is no longer accessible in current versions of Illustrator. This is a crying shame! I am forced to stay with AI CC2015 because I need access to the black and white version of this font. Why would Adobe take away a perfectly useful variation of a font because it is a "color" font????

A fellow designer shared an approved design with me, to adapt it to other formats, and packages all fonts, including Almost SVG Cyrillic.
When I opened the document, she happened to be near me and wondered why the font used in it it brighter that she remembered.
We figured out that she has CC2015 19.2.1, and the font gets displayed just as black (that she found suiting the design). I use the latest released version as a main toll, and I get textured letters.
The problem is:
1. More complex part. I can’t find a way to apply a black fill over the live characters, even using nested appearance and Outline Object effect (which effectively allows to trace, roughly, a transparent image)
2. More basic part. I can’t find a way to outline these at all — while she can. Some characters in the font give transparent images after expanding, but most result in bluish multi-ink images.
So I had to grab an outlined version of the text from older Ai and use it instead of live text.
