Illustrator Fails to request Disk access cannot access file system i.e. cant save the files!
I have a freshly set up m1 mac Illustrator 24.6.1 and I was stumped today when using Illustrator for the first time on it. When after working on a file I could not save it. Save, Save as, Save a Copy,"Save Before Your exit - save" all failed to do anything. I then tried opedning a file... I discovered that Illustrator had failed to get permission from Mac OS to work with files. So I was stuck with my work that needed to be saved!
I opened system preferences => security & privacy=>privacy, and then file settings, and saw that Illustrator hadn't requested access to any folders! So this was why I couldn't open a file or save the current file I am working on: Illustrator couldn't launch Finder!
My work around was to click on the full disk access menu. Give Illustrator full disk access. The force quit illustrator so that it would restore the file after the “crash”. Then reopened illustrator, and was able to save the file now that it had full disk access.

An interesting case, thanks for the report. Will see if anything can be done about that.

I think Illustrator got in the bad state that it didn't know that it needed to request file access, because I opened it, and created a new art-board, and used my clipboard to add all the assets, versus opening via files. Darn Apple sandboxing!
