Cursor won’t change when a tool is picked using keyboard shortcuts
Selected tool icons do not change when using keyboard shortcuts. For example: zooming in (Z) and then selecting Direct Selection (A) keeps the zoom icon, which is disconcerting to say the least. You're not sure you've selected the correct tool, or have to click the mouse to make sure (doing so resets the icon to the correct tool).
I've noticed it on 26.5. I rolled-back to 26.4.1 and experienced it there too. I'm running a new MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021), Apple M1 Max chip 32 GB.
I've attached screenshots of various tools that fail to switch.

Philip, the purpose of this forums is to gather feedback and prioritize it. So far the problem doesn’t have enough votes. Sure, this count is not definitive threshold, since UV is still not actively used by all Ai users (most of them prefer to just overcome their problems instead of reporting them), but this value is the only public metric the team has.
The but is no pleasant (like if there are pleasant bugs), but there are more nastier ones so far. More votes — more attention.
Sorry, but there is nothing I personally can do with it, except for testing it (and sadly, this bug seems to affect only Macs — I don’t have it), and replying with a useless reply like this :(

What's the point of this USERVOICE forum if there is no response from Adobe Admin? This is a significant defect in Illustrator and we haven't heard anything from Adobe on how or when this will be fixed. This has been going on for over 6 months.

We are in February 2023 and still no fix to this problem… ? It is a productivity issue for users.

I have a similar problem. When I keyboard shortcut from selection or direct selection to another tool (rotate, reflect, or scale) the selection icon stays on and it doesn't switch to crosshairs. I also have the issue where the selection tool icon does not switch from selection to direct selection and vice versa.

To expand on this, the non-tool icon refresh happens when changing between any tools. The icon doesn't switch over to the selected tool and is very disconcerting and affecting my productivity.

I'm experiencing a tool icon lag when selecting tools via the keyboard. For example, if I am using the Selection Tool (V) and switch to Zoom Tool (Z), zoom in and switch back to Selection Tool (V) the Zoom Tool remains. Which is unnerving as I think I'm going to zoom again, but it behaves as the Selection Tool.
Similar behaviour when going from Selection Tool (V) to Direct Selection Tool (A) and back to Selection Tool (V). In fact it seems to be going back to Selection Tool, it doesn't refresh back to that icon, it sticks on the previously selected tool.
I can't post screen grabs, but that about sums it up. Cheers.
