Any document created using Film & Video document profile gets a second 14400×14400 artboard
When creating a new document in the HDV/HDTV 1080 or other Film and Video-related workspaces, the artboard is initially created with the correct size. However, as soon as you add any object to this workspace outside of the borders of the artboard, a new artboard is automatically generated, and it is massive. This forces the user to manually remove the second artboard, which is unnecessary.
The second artboard is not a bug, but a specifically designed behavior for later import to AfterEffects. It gives AE enough room to avoid clipping of the layer content to the main artboard size (basically a dummy for a pasteboard).
Here is a quote from The Adobe Illustrator WOW! Book (found here: https://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/146842/huge-unwanted-artboard-created-by-default-in-adobe-illustrator-cc-2020):
Тo create a composition to import into After Effects, use the Video & Film Document Profile (Film & Video in CC). This creates two artboards — one large artboard that serves as a "scratch" area for objects used later in AE, and one sized for your chosen video format.

Fantastic. Thanks so much. I never thought to check if it was created from the start. Appreciate your quick help with this.

Not new however. I checked several older versions, and this happens in all CC builds, as well as CS6 — but not in CS4, although it had artboards as a thing already. So it’s either from CS5 or CS6.

Oh! Anton, try to JUST create a doc using this preset and check the Artboards before you create anything.
Try HDV 720 instead. Try Cineon Half, or any other template that uses Film & Video document profile... all of them will have this giant second artboard from the get go.
Document profiles should not maintain any artboards within... and if we check the actual file, Film & Video.ai, it won’t have anything like it in it.That’s definitely a bug. Thanks for the report!
I am fixing the title of it and will try to let the team know faster. -

Anton, still can’t replicate this. Does it always behave like this for you?
Can you please try to reproduce it from the scratch, using a brand new doc, and something simple to draw it beyond the first artboard?
If you catch it on video, it’d be even more helpful. If it’s a fresh bug, catching it right here and now would add more chances to fix it while it’s hot. -

Hi @Egor.
The original artboard is the preset at 1920 x 1080. The additional
(unwanted) artboard that creates itself is sized at 14400 px x 14400 px, in size.
The build I am using is 28.4.1 -
What is the size of this artboard?
What build are you using?
