Converted text won't change color. Eyedropper nor manual change not working (even though "fill" panel picks it up)
I tried resetting everything, and updated Illustrator, which didn't help. Then I installed the new one and told it to remove old versions. So I now have the new illustrator 2024, and eyedropper still doesn't work. Exact same bug between versions of illustrator.
Note, it seems to specifically be happening with text, even after changed to outlines.
I saw a release note that this had been fixed yesterday, but I am having the issue right now, with the brand new install.

Laurel, I think I know exactly what is happening (and I consider it a bug).
Let’s check my guess.Please open Appearance panel (not the truncated section in Properties, but the full one).
Select the outlines of your text and check the stack of attributes it has.
Does it look anything like the screenshot I attached?
Specifically — does the fill go below the contents?
