Text tool inserting wrong style
If I have text typed out, then I try to change one letter it changes my font. For example I have the would "hot" typed in acumin regular, then I go to change the word to "got" and it might make the "g" bold or condensed or just an different style that is on the document. I am not using paragraph styles or character styles.

Taylor, what version of Illustrator are you using?
There was a bug recently, and it was fixed in 29.2: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/49111304
If your build is newer, and resetting preferences doesn’t help, please share more details.
Also, you say 'style' do you mean style of the same font, or does font family get changed as well?
Can you record this on video, with the Character panel visible in frame?
Does it happen in any document, including new ones?
