This issue affects every .ai file on macOS when attempting to open them via double-click from Finder. A system dialog appears stating:
“<filename>.ai” could not be found.
This problem has been consistently occurring since the introduction of Illustrator CC, and continues to affect all subsequent versions.
This is a severe UX and workflow-breaking bug. It makes it impossible to use the most natural way of opening files on macOS. Users are forced to adapt inconvenient workarounds.
Please escalate this issue to the engineering team and acknowledge it publicly. We ask for a fix or a detailed technical explanation of what’s causing the failure.
Thank you.
