An error occurred while saving the comment Gisela, it’s not very clear what is exactly happening form the video.
You should capture the video from a screen directly next time, using an app. Some more info needed.
Can you please check:
1. What are the current options for the Eyedropper tool? Double click the tool icon in the tool panel, or hit Enter while the tool is active to show the dialogue. Does it by any chance have both Appearance options checked in both columns? It should not matter though...
2. Are you sure you click the line precise enough? It’s easy to miss the line and grab the white from the background within a very small tolerance... and the cursor does not differ from background or object, sadly.
3. Is the appearance of the dashed stroke is simple enough? One stroke, above the no-color fill, no extra stuff? Can you check it the Appearance panel?
It could be just a mis-click ...or something wrong, depending on answers.

An error occurred while saving the comment Angie, it’s a workaround, but not the solution.
Most of the time I need those links, it’s just I don’t want to update them **yet**. After I am done with edits, I am OK with getting them updated ...but Ai should not bother me with that question all over again if I choose not to and don’t make any changes to a linked file!An error occurred while saving the comment Yes, it started to behave like this for me too.

An error occurred while saving the comment Try to View > Hide bounding box.
This will leave you everything except accidental resizing and rotating.
When you need it back you can press Ctrl+Shift+B, or call Free Transform (which is broken though) by hitting E... or rebind Bounding Box to E :) -

An error occurred while saving the comment Márcio, the latest Illustrator version has an expanded options for selecting text, just for that exactly.
Have you seen them? Select > Same > Text block.
These commands allow you to select text of specific size, font, style, size, etc., combined or not.
Does is suffice you? Also, if you you search for more complex search conditions, please try FindReplace Art panel from the AstuteGraphics plugins pack: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=FindReplace+Art
A paid tool, but it worth it for some tedious tasks. -

An error occurred while saving the comment Clif, is this still an issue for you?
I just tried to reproduce it, and separations look correct in Acrobat if you export a document with a pieces colored in a Pantone and a shade of overprinted black over it.
Can you please confirm this or refute?
Also, what preset were you using when exported your file? -

You can drag an asset with the Alt/Opt key held to embed it instead of placing.
However, please note a PDF-copy of an asset is used, and not the original artwork you had imported into a Library, which means the embedded copy can have extra clipping masks and expanded effects.
An error occurred while saving the comment I wonder if this is still an issue for you, because an asset from a Library can be imbedded any time with a button in Control or Properties panel.
No copypasting is required now.
Miguel, can you confirm or refute this? -

An error occurred while saving the comment Camila, can you share that file, please?
I saw these many times, and always assumed it’s just how it works. Well, in fact it’s not :) Thank you for the report!AdminEgor Chistyakov (Admin, Adobe Illustrator) supported this idea · -

Does not happen for me on Windows.
There must me a difference in our setups.
Please tell more — is the panel docked? grouped? free-floating?
How do you place a link? by dragging? with a context menu?
Record a video of you trying, if it is reproducible for you.
