82 votesWe finally got the control over the active artboard border color.
In Beta 30.1.0.89, in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display, in the new Artboard Display section, we now can choose the color and the border width in pixels — black, 1 px by default, as usual. We can set it 4 px maximum
The border tries to get aligned by center, but stays pixel-perfect, so choosing 3 is safe. Color choices are the same as we get with layers’ colors, with a custom option as well.
There’s no way to tweak inactive artboards’ borders. Please comment if this solution is working for you and if there’s anything you need to have it perfect.

It's happening to me almost constantly. Also with basic printing formats, like A4. It's becoming very difficult for me to work.

Much more important now with the infinitely nested groups of AI generation.

The solution is pushed into Global Availability build 28.6.
PDF is now available as type in File > Export > Export As dialog.
However, File > Adobe PDF Presets menu, similar to one InDesign has, to allow even quicker export, is absent still.
If you want to have it, please upvote this new request here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/48670088

At the moment Ai does not support Color Swatches to assign artboard background color, and currently exporting a PNG doesn’t support respecting the color, as well as into some other file formats — but the team intends to add these.
Please share more feedback, describe your workflows and needs. It helps to shape the feature.

This is fixed in 27.1.0 build 2.
The suffix checkbox was added into the Export As dialog to toggle on/off the functionality.
If it doesn’t work for you today in the latest build — please make a comment.

There’s a lot of wasted potential in how Illustrator handles live text adjustments.
When editing a portion of text. For instance, changing the Weight, Width, or Optical Size of a variable font; the selected text turns white on black, making it impossible to visually compare that part with the rest of the text in real time.
This issue doesn’t only affect variable fonts, but also other character values like font size, tracking, or leading.
The highlight blocks the view, so you can’t evaluate proportions or rhythm while adjusting.
In Photoshop, however, this works beautifully: when you press Control-H (Hide Edges), the highlight disappears, and you can still edit the text interactively, dragging on the icons to change values and instantly see the result on screen.
It’s practical, precise, and fluid.
It would be wonderful if Illustrator offered the same kind of dynamic interaction:
perhaps an option to temporarily hide the highlight when pressing Command-H, or while holding Command or Option as you adjust a slider or numeric field.
It doesn’t need to be always active, just available when you need to compare text visually while editing.
This would unlock the full potential of variable fonts and live typography editing in Illustrator.
Why it matters:
Working with type in Illustrator could become far more intuitive and accurate if designers could see what they’re adjusting in real time, without the black highlight covering the text. It’s a small UX change that would make a huge difference for precision typography and variable font workflows.
