It’s dangerous to call things Smart... When they behave dumb, the name sound like an insult. Sadly, this is the case.

Please provide more specific cases, with video proofs, ask you colleagues to share and vote, to move this further. This is the way to force changes to things that are broken — be vocal and persistent. Thank you all and let’s hope we get heard.

Another example smart guides being inconsistent and/or broken, when aligning objects is when using the selection tool to scale objects into alignment as opposed to moving objects into alignment. This issue in my case, is aligning objects that are used as clipping masks.

In my video, I have smart guides on as I try to align a shapes' edge to the bottom of another. The edges do not line up if I SCALE one objects' edge to another object, despite having a pink alignment indication. But when MOVING the object to align the edges , it aligns correctly. WTH is wrong here. Shouldn't you get the same results? On close inspection, using the selection tool to scale and align one object to another, the smart guides seem to want to align one objects' middle line to the other objects' outer line, causing a misalignment. But if I release the clipping mask contents, the alignment works normally.

This problem further shows that smart guides is having problems, in particular, aligning the edges of clipping mask objects.

'Snap to point' in Illustrator is poor. You cannot currently snap objects together reliably. Results are inconsistent.
    For example,
    1) snapping a point to an edge does not work well, if at all. I have 'snap to point' on and smart guides enabled.
    2) when using constrain with the shift key, whether they be points or edges. Even with snap to point turned on, or using smart guides. Just something simple as drag-copying another box adjacent to itself does not snap together the edges.
In my videos, the first video applies to point 1) and the second video at 10s, you can see that when using 'constrain' there is no information about where the edges are, and snapping of the edges clearly does not work. Not even dragging a corner, which is a point, to the other objects' edge, no snapping or any edge indication.
Adobe please do not consider this. Please just fix it and make this work, please!

What more occurs when I start a new A4 document, which my default I set to 300ppi, the dialog, Rendering '3D and Materials' effect
appears for at least 20 seconds. I also see a brief dialog for 'warping' and 'drop shadow'. None of that should be loading with a blank document, right? I made a screen capture video of the process. I couldn't see the warping or drop shadow status in the dialog in this recording but it has appeared.

Can this issue be addressed with some sort of priority? I am still having this issue. Even when starting a New, blank document, if the 3D Effects panel was active from the last open session of Illustrator, the time it takes to just get to the artboard view takes upwards of 40 seconds.

The latest Beta version (27.7) has the ability to filter contents of the Layers panel with an input field at the top of the panel. It does not directly select the objects that have the chosen value in their names (this includes the text contents), but allows to select them faster in the panel.

    Does it help?

Each object in Illustrator has a center but it's only visible if you manually click the 'Show Center' in the Attributes Panel for the active object. Wouldn't it be great if the center was always shown, and that you didn't have to set each object manually?

Hello, I guess I'd prefer having foldable sections. That may be easier for AI to implement for the time being. Just as long as the foldable sections stay folded (or unfolded) as one had left them. Though it would be great to have the tools I mentioned as part of the right-click menu.

I use a 4K capable 32" screen and I set the resolution high (2560X1440) but not at the finest resolution because everything is difficult to see.
I use the 'group' transform an arrange tools, and 'make clipping and compound mask' from the right-click menu the most. The other right-click menu items I use seldomly or not at all.
I actually see the issue with the right-click menu, for me, is not being able to choose the tools on it that I want. For example I'd like to have the 'align' 'offset path', 'smart guides' 'snap to point', and 'lock' tools on the right-click menu., If other tools must be there as by AI's design, then I'd like to have the option to roll-up unused tools to keep the menu more tidy.

Illustrator today has Cut, Copy, Paste and other Paste variants in the context menu.

However, Lock and Hide are missing still. Please continue voting and commenting if you need these items.

Please add the full 'lock' options to the right-click menu, just like it is in the 'Edit' menu please.

The latest Illustrator build (v29.2) now offers a way to see the distances between a selected object and an object hovered over / edges of an artboard.

    1. Click on the object you want to measure the distance from
    2. Press Opt/Alt and hover over the object that you want to measure distance to
    3. You can also hover over empty area to see the distance from the selected object and the artboard boundaries

Please try it and come back with the feedback.
