The solution to this problem is to disable the dedicated 'Show handles when multiple anchors are selected' option in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display.
Usually it is off by default and does not interfere.
However, when it’s enabled, Illustrator displays all handles for all selected art when Group Selection tool is used, and it can lead to accidental handle changes when moving the art.
If you have it disabled but still have problems — please comment back.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous shared this idea ·An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedWhen I try and use the group select tool, it keeps selecting individual points rather than the path or object or group. Instead of moving the entire object, just one point moves, stretching it out of shape. I then ctr-z the action and the application crashes. Not every time but once in every 20, so, a couple times a day. Absolutely infuriating.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedThis happens with any file. It happens with the selection tool and the Group selection tool. Even when the entire path is already selected.
It is happening with 27.0.1
All I'm doing is trying to move a group I've selected. An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedAfter clicking on a path or object with the section tool and selecting the entire path/object, I then attempt to click and move that object and the tool selects only one of the points and drags that instead of dragging the entire path/object.
Click on path-full path selected-click to drag-only point is drug.

Please accept my sincere apology for the inconvenience. Please get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.

It seems like later builds of Illustrator don’t have this problem.
Please verify or disprove it.
The mentioned problem with Group Selection and Selection tools selecting singular points is reported here, with a workaround solution.
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedI have added a keystroke shortcut to my workspace of SHIFT-A to choose the group select tool and simply A chooses the direct select tool. This removes the issue and I always know what tool I'm getting. Now if the GROUP SELECT tool would just work like it should and stop selecting single points.

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 26.3.1 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html

An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedThis is still an issue that isn't working.
I'm NOT on Windows like Egor - maybe it works fine there.
When selecting a group the isolate selected object button appears in the menu bar and objects are able to be used as isolated objects. - if there is any live text, it does NOT appear and is not available. Now on v26.5 Mac OS ~ 12.5.1
An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedDoesn't work for me either. Have to deselect text or outline. Makes it very difficult when text is in a group.

your solution of reinstalling Illustrator 2019 totally worked for me as well.
I had also deleted this version recently and, thinking back, I believe that is when this issue began.
Thank you! -

An error occurred while saving the comment Anonymous commentedAlso having this issue. Not solved by shutting off Ps or by restarting.
As I try to drag a marquee or create a shape, the left click "releases" and drops the action I was in the middle of.
I have found it also happens in Ps as well. -
