1. Stop covering the document tabs with expanded docked panels

   If I dock panels to sides of the application frame, expanding the ones from the top panel groups will cover the document tabs, like the GIF shows.
   In a situation when it’s important to know what is the current document (they can differ slightly) this is especially irritating.

   Please nudge them down a bit!

2. Show list of open files in different menu place / separate panel

   The open files are under Window menu, that is a large list to scroll and locate the files. I think it will be better to have an open files menu only for that. Also could be nice to have a button to browse them all, or a different method, like a panel.

3. Allow to exclude handles from being snapped to grid

   I remember it being a bug, when handles were not snapping to grid... but sometimes it’s actually useful! Currently we have to undo, disable the grid, and tweak the handle.
   There should either be a hard option we can toggle (preferably with an ability to assign it to a hotkey), or a hotkey to toggle this behavior on the fly, the one we can tap while dragging and disable snapping for this operation only... or both!

4. Make an option to never enable Knockout Group for new blend objects

   Illustrator insists on checking "knockout group" on my blends, I never want this, I always have to go in and turn that off every time I make a blend of a couple of objects with complicated appearances. Gimme a switch for that behavior.

5. Allow to create Swatch Info object using a hotkey

   Currently to create a Swatch Info object you need to dive into the Swatches panel’s flyout menu and locate a command. We need a way to assign a hotkey to this.

6. Allow to control font for Swatch Info objects

   Well... if one wants to choose font size for text in Swatch Info objects while making one — tough luck. We can only set the color chip size.

   Since Preview is completely missing now (here’s the request about it: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/49681244), it’s hard to evaluate if text would be large enough to accompany them.
   Even if you change the font size after the Swatch Info is created — won’t do, each text line is a separate type objects, their leading won’t be adjusted, the card background rectangles won’t adapt!

   One can think this font is based on the [Normal Paragraph Style], and we can tweak it (beforehand!) to set the font size...
   But it’s only half-truth. While the font family and the font style indeed follow the style, the font size is always 10 points.

   So, team, if you look how people in different tutorial videos have to dance around this stupid limitation, to guess the card size to fit the font size relatively, and then scale the whole object... I hope you will fill shame at least.

   If you are afraid to overload new users with controls in the dialog — at least make an option to scale font size to fit color chip size... or make it a relative value even.

   Well... if one wants to choose font size for text in Swatch Info objects while making one — tough luck. We can only set the color chip size.

   Ai today offers dedicated controls for the font inside of Swatch Info objects.. all but the font family — these use the one used by the [Normal Paragraph Style].

7. Allow to place cards next to color chips instead of always below for Swatch Info objects

   We can choose from two main layout options for Swatch Info: horizontal and vertical.
   Horizontal puts 'cards' with text info below the chips, while Vertical option makes them... wait! Still below? Not next to it?
   I think we should be able to choose if we want to place them on the side, rather then always at the bottom.
   Take a look at a draft mockup attached.

8. Keyboard shortcut to cycle through 'Change Case' states

   Allow users to assign a keyboard shortcut to cycle through 'Change Case' settings. This was available on previous versions of Ai, and is a basic functionality that seems to have been removed for absolutely no reason.

9. One click flatten button, to Expand text and strokes for print/sharing

   Hi everyone,
   I'm a computer graphic design teacher at NABA. While teaching Adobe Illustrator, I’ve found it challenging to explain the concept of Expand Appearance and how to properly flatten text and lines for final output.

   It would be incredibly helpful to have a one-click solution that automatically handles proofing—expanding appearances, flattening both text and lines—and clearly indicates that the AI or PDF file is ready for print or delivery.

10. Centralized Notification History

    Currently, Notifications are eliminated when cleared. This is a problem if you accidentally clear a notification that you want to read later. Often a Notification can be a reference for something that you forgot that hasn't been documented yet.

    Please resolve this issue by making Notifications like e-mail, where you have read notifications and unread notifications. This allows us to manually delete notifications at our convenience, but refer back to them when needed.

    Either that or allow us to bookmark notifications for later use. This would require an entire Bookmarking system and seems a little much when you already have the tried and tested email model to use for read or skipped notifications.

    Currently, Notifications are eliminated when cleared. This is a problem if you accidentally clear a notification that you want to read later. Often a Notification can be a reference for something that you forgot that hasn't been documented yet.

    Please resolve this issue by making Notifications like e-mail, where you have read notifications and unread notifications. This allows us to manually delete notifications at our convenience, but refer back to them when needed.

11. Move items inside/outside hidden and locked layers.

    I want to move items in and out of locked and/or hidden layers.
    I use the lock and hidden options to not accendently modify them on the canvas, but I do neet to rearrange them in the layers, or need a copy of an item.

12. Please add virtual sliders for Rotate values for Objects on Path

    Great new tool, Objects on Path. Unfortunately, the UI for rotating the Objects is not very smooth. We can choose preset angles via a dropdown, or type numbers. Why not add virtual sliders, just like Photoshop? This is so much more intuitive in a design process.

13. Add Black and White color chips in Color Picker dialog in Color Models mode

    For some reason, the Color Picker dialog is the default way of setting a color in several color induced effects: Drop Shadow, Inner and Outer Glow.

    Most of times these effects are used, we need to toggle between black and white. These are more or less OK to pick quickly, if we change the mode of the dialog to Color Swatches.

    But each time this dialog is called when editing a color for the effect, the dialog open in the first mode, Color Models.
    And to set black or white in this mode we need to click the spectrum field and drag the point into a corner. You get accustomed to this, and realize you can move the mouse beyond the the dialog, making the precision gesture 'infinite' — and this is what MANY users do, if you watch tutorials or timelapses.

    But this is bullshit. We just need black and white, without fiddling with the spectrum. More of it, in a CMYK document setting black like this would make it rich black, and not K100 — which one would have to set manually, by typing it.

    Since there is a request about adding Recent Colors, perhaps into Swatches or Color (http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/44772598), perhaps we should be given an option to see these in Color Picker as well (a lot of users prefer it to Color+Swatches panels). In this case, just make Black and White always there, as a fixed choices.

    Another solution would be just to display the same 'Color UI' used for any other place in Ai, the Swatches + Color Mixer (minus Gradient and Generative Pattern, obviously).

14. Make Pattern Options work when stroke is selected in tool panel

    You can't open the pattern editor from swatches panel or from shortcut if stroke is selected in tools panel. I shot screen grab to demonstrate.

    I can see why it might be desired behaviour, but you can still select patterns to fill a selection, while stroke is selected in tools panel. so it doesn't seem to make sense.

    If fill is selected, you can enter the pattern editor for a selected swatch, from the swatches panel independent of pattern swatches in use or active in project. But if stroke is active/selected you can not.

15. Library Colour Palettes – Standardise Across InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop

    Standardise the following across applications and when adding to swatches:

    1. Retain 'Global'
    2. Retain colour name
    3. Retain grouping
    4. Retain order in group
    5. Retain group name
    6. Allow adding group
    7. As in InDesign, allow deleting swatch and replacing with another (i.e., delete RGB and replace with CMYK)

16. Add an option to remember the choice in the warning about changing existing brush strokes

    Changing brush size asks to apply changes to existing brush strokes. I would like this never pop up and always have 'Leave strokes'.

17. There is no documentation for the vector effects in the Effect menu. Write some, please.

    There's three major sections to the Effect menu: Illustrator Effects, Photoshop Effects, and Additional Effects.

    Additional Effects is the domain of plug-in effects, and properly documenting these is of course in the hands of whoever wrote the plug-in.

    Photoshop Effects is full of bitmap effects. There's a page in the docs that runs down the whole list and describes every one of them with a sentence or three. Great! https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/summary-effects.html

    Illustrator Effects, though? Some of it's documented. There's a page about the Scribble effect, which is also for some reason about the Object Mosaic menu item. There's a page about the Drop Shadow, Inner/Outer Glow, and Feather effect. But where's the rest? There's an entirely unrelated section about the new 3d effects halfway across the manual, and nothing about the "classic" ones and the reasons you might still choose to use them now. How do the SVG effects work? What are the various Pathfinder effects useful for? What on earth is Outline Object supposed to do?

    Seriously I have been using this thing for 25 years and it is only today that I learnt what Outline Object is for because someone posted a question about this in the Illustrator subreddit; someone else posted a link to a video Monika Gause made explaining this and lemme tell you, I never would have stumbled across what it's useful for in a million years of using Illustrator normally.

    I assume there was documentation for this once, but it's vanished in manual rewrites. I know other things that are completely undocumented now like "holding down the ` key while transforming shapes switches to transforming their fill patterns, as long as you're not using transformation tools written after this fact vanished from the manual like the Free Transform tool". So much knowledge of how this program works is now lore passed down from one artist to another and that's really kind of annoying. Please dig up all the old docs you can find, figure out what's gone missing, figure out what menu items and tools have no docs, and write some new ones.

18. Effect dialogs need sliders

    Illustrator's stylized filters need a more practical and dynamic UI.

    Currently, stylized effects such as Drop Shadow, Feather, Inner and Outer Glow have an outdated UI and are not dynamic.

    I remember that Gaussian Blur was not in the past either, but Gaussian Blur was updated years ago and these stylized filters were not.

    I believe that these stylized filters deserve a more practical, faster and dynamic way of being adjusted, and I took the liberty of creating a UI suggestion inspired by the current Gaussian Blur UI.

    What do you think, would it be possible?

20. Is there a way to turn off the "Help Toolbar" (grey bar with "?") at the bottom of the screen?

    Can this be a Preference to be turned off if not needed? It eats into valuable real estate at the bottom. I used to be able to view an 8.5 x 11 document @100% on my 27" iMac. Now I have to reduce it down to fit.

    We can hide it with Window > Help Bar command, the same way we choose the other panels to show or hide
