1. Add a 'Single Midpoint Anchor' Tool in Illustrator

   Request: Add a tool or command that allows users to add a single anchor point precisely at the midpoint of any selected path segment without affecting the entire shape.

   Why It’s Needed: Illustrator currently lacks an intuitive way to place an anchor point exactly between two existing anchor points. The "Add Anchor Points" command applies to all segments, and the Smart Guides often fail to indicate an accurate midpoint. Manually calculating coordinates is impractical.

   Suggested Implementation:

   • A new "Add Midpoint Anchor" option in Object > Path that works on a single segment.

   • A modified behavior in the Pen Tool (P) or Add Anchor Point Tool (+) that automatically snaps to the true midpoint of a selected path segment.

2. Add an option for Curvature tool to prioritize the currently selected path

   Curvature is one of the more recent tools Illustrator introduced (well, in 2014... time flies). Unlike older tools, it tries to be smart. One of this 'smart' behaviors is an ability to both select and edit paths. It prevents us from placing the next point of the currently selected path right above an existing unselected path — the tool treats it as an attempt to select the latter.

   There is an existing request to tweak the continuation tolerance, similar to what Pencil has: https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/34578331

   But to be fair, I’d love more options for the tool in general. So far it has ONE only, and it’s hidden within Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display: Enable Rubber Band... it should not be an app-level option! it’s a tool’s option! and it should be put in Curvature Tool Options dialog, called by Enter or double-click on the tool’s icon, just like every other tool allows...

   And another option it should get must be 'Prefer selected path'.
   With this checked, when nothing is selected — allow the tool to select path... but is something is already selected, prevent it from selecting, until I choose to. I’d even recommend to make this the default behavior.

3. Please please please repair the Template system

   Saving my own Template is still a pain, since the folder where those are stored needs extra privileges, which can't be given from within the Save Template dialog.
   Please, rework this Template save / load system, and make it fail proof and rock solid.

   This is how it should work in 2025:
   -Save Template.
   -Give Name
   -Done

5. Dimensions, auto select after creation

   I find that i am always needing to change the defaults when using the Dimension tool, as frames of reference change from project to project.

   I have started to develop a workflow where I'll just select the created dimension to adjust the text and line in Properties panel.

   What would be more useful would be if the dimension was automatically selected after created, same behavior as most tools in Ai have, like crating a shape or a text.

   The tool does not seem to pay any attention to what is selected when you are creating measurements, but if there is some reasoning for the current behavior, It would be good if you could use a modifier key while creating measurement that selected it as it's created.

7. Free Transform Tool - Free Perspective & Free Distort should be there own tools with short cut.

   Free Perspective & Free Distort should be there own tools with shortcuts (or that we can make custom shortcuts for), or a way to quickly filter through by hitting a key to get to the option needed (ie you hit E to bring up free transform, then hit E to select alt options like Free Perspective & Free Distort) having to scroll over to a tiny panel to select which I want to use is time that could be saved. I know the panel floats, but having to open Free Transform then move the panel near what I need, then if I use it later it's now in the way so I have to move it again. It's just a lot of a added hassle. I think it might be better that they are their own tolls like with Shear, Skew, Rotate etc. The holding shift just as with the other tools constrains proportions so that extra click is also probably not needed. To sum I think it would be great if we had a Free Transform, Free Perspective, & Free Distort as individual tools instead of the latter two being only in a panel widget connected to the Free Transform tool. Thank you.

8. Pen tool work flow

   I use several Adobe products and the Pen tool’s work flow in Illustrator is terrible. A lot of functionality is separated into several different tools that could all be wrapped together into one beautiful tool. The Pen tool’s work flow within Photoshop works so much better! (Make a line, Add or subtract anchor points, Add or break curves, move an anchor point, move a line, rotate a selection of anchor points.) You can do all of this with the Photoshop version of the pen tool as one tools work flow. Within Illustrator you have to switch between a different tool to do every step of the process, adding a bunch of unnecessary steps just to do one simple task. Why do I need to switch do a different tool to break the curve? Having to press Shift+C should not be a thing. ALL IN ONE PEN TOOL WORK FLOW PLEASE 🙏

10. All Inputs / Panels Follow Dimension Tool Scale

    I want to be able to create and edit all of my art in scale.
    Example
    I would like to be able to make a 2" rectangle in 1:2 scale and have it illustrator draw me a 1" square on the page.
    This would be very powerful for things when expanded to the object info box to get area and path dimensions, being able to make a font 3' tall in the character panel.
    Every place that you can control shapes with math, it would be amazing to be able to do it to scale in the program without having to exit to do math elsewhere to get your conversion.

11. Learn to link / place .ai files saved without PDF compatibility (PGF only)

    I know, why would you. A PDF-layer is basically a composite flattened layer Ai writes into an .ai document, and just reads it when the file is placed: in Photoshop, in InDesign. Handy, yeah?

    Not really. Saving a document without the compatibility is so much faster. The non-compatible files are so much lighter (especially with heavy raster links used within). OK, Ps and InD can’t read PGF (Progressive Graphics Format, the one that’s native for Ai)... but Ai can.

    Why not reading linked .ai docs as they are and THEN keep it’s PDF representation within the destination file, if it makes the difference in performance? I don’t mean save this representation within it, just regenerate it on opening, no?

    I mean, I’m so tired of seeing these 'This is an Ai® file that was saved without PDF...' stamps instead of actual content when I need to link something... instead of generating it right there and now, you force us to import/open the link, resave it and try anew. You can read these! Just read them, please.

12. Reflect tool should mirror path direction as well

    When Reflecting (mirroring, flipping) Paths with a non non uniform Stroke Widths, the result is not correct, since the Path direction is not reversed. (see screenshot)

13. Bulk add graphics to library

    Selecting multiple groups of objects and adding to a library adds them all as one giant graphic. Can't we have them added separately? Years of life have been lost adding one graphic at a time to a library.

14. Problemas de Herramientas de Selección, Distrosión, Entre otras.

    He usado Affinity Designers 2, Por temas empresariales comence a trabajar con Adobe illustrator... Encontre tantas herramientas que estan defasadas y no evolucionan..

    Primero:
    La Herramientas de seleccion debería por si sola tambien trabajar con la distorción del objeto y no requerir una herramienta adicional para distorcionar, dejen el orgullo y aprendan de las novedades a de affinity y apliquenlas en adobe.

    Herramienta de Reflejo...
    No es más facil tener un botor de reflejo en la parte superior o en el menu de propiedades?
    Les explico, en affinity solo presionas un boton y puf, reflejo, tanto horizontal como vertical, y tambien la rotaciones... MUY UTIL Y RAPIDO.
    Piensan que seleccionar la herramienta... dar click como se hará el reflejo... y luego dar aceptar.... Affinity lo resolvio bastante rapido... botones especificos para cada acción puntual.... Creo que pagando una mensualidad, minimo merecemos aplicaciones mas intuitivas..

    Herramienta de Desplazamiento...
    No es mas facil una herramienta a selecionar y que uno libremente vaya desplazando el contorno en tiempo real?
    por que AI no funciona en tiempo real cuando vamos a configurar alguna herramienta?

    Herramienta de degradado en los textos..
    Al momento de crear un texto por primera vez e intentar colocarle un degradado con la herramienta... no funciona... porque? simple, para que funcione debes irte al panel de apariencia y crear un color para el texto y luego aplicar el degradado... entonces pregunto yo ¿Acaso el objeto no debería venir con un color por default? Repito, usen affinity y copien las cosa buenas, apliquenla a AI, la gente se los agradecerá.

    Herramienta de Transparencia?
    Creen que es más facil: seleccionar un objeto, aplicarle un degradado, luego poner los dos colores iguales, luego aplicar mas transparencia a un color que a otro, para crear el efecto de que el objeto es transaprente... a.. Selecionar la herramienta "transparencia" que no existe, deslizar sobre el objeto seleccionado y voala! transparencia al instante.... No debe ser tan dificil para adobe...

    Herramienta de texto...
    Mientra colocas el texto en la mesa de trabajo, tienes que irte al panel de opciones de texto para agradar dicho texto.... SE PIERDE TIEMPO.

    no es mejor dar click, arrastrar y el texto se agrande?

    ¿Por que no prueban affinity y copian un par de funciones?
    Creanme que no se arrepentirán.

    Otra cosa... comiencen a simplificar las herramientan, hay demasiadas que se notan repetitivas.

    Saludos! espero mis sugerencias sean tomadas en cuenta, por que sinceramente, illustrator esta apareciendo el freehand de hace unos años atras.... en vez de mejorar su interfaz y hacerla mas amigable, le mete mas y mas herramientas dispersadas por todo el programa.

15. Allow to cut path with a drag rather than a click when using Scissors

    I want the Scissors tool to be able to cut paths like the Knife does, with a click-and-drag, splitting a path at an intersection of straight/freeform (straight by default) drawn line with a path (ideally prioritizing selected ones over others, like requested here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/36111436)

    I’m rather tired of seeing this loud modal dialog when I don’t have Smart Guides enabled and miss a line (because the tool doesn’t have enough feedback by modern times’ standards: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/44725546)

    A single click should still work.
    This new option should have a tweakable tolerance, a minimal distance we need to drag to get it detected as a drag-cut.
    Probably it should allow to choose if it should make first cut only or detect all intersections with a cut line.

    No, Knife tool behaves differently, compare yourself.

16. Make USEFUL hover hints for ALL the options, fields, menu commands

    Clearly the team doesn’t really care about making hover hints to be a learning tool.

    Rarely these actually try to say what an option or a field does or controls: like 'Start editing similar shapes together' for the 'Global Edit' button in the Control panel, or 'Click to pick arrowhead to apply to start point of path' in Stroke panel...

    But in most cases the hint is extremely rudimentary.
    Try to hover the 'W' field in Transform panel — you’d get 'W value'. W?! Weight? Wand? Why not say 'Width Value', or even 'Set Width for the selected objects'?

    Then again — why do you caption only icons, but not something like menu commands? Why can’t a new user hover over Select > Start Global Edit and get a short explanation (especially with rich tooltips enabled)?

    Why Scale Corners in Transform has a decent hint, but Scale Strokes & Effects — none at all?

    Why can’t you make hover hints have several lines of text, if needed?
    Take a look at how a carefully written hint for a plugin option suffers from being restricted to one line?

    OK, if you’re afraid of flashing with large cards (the main reason why people hate rich tooltips) — why can’t you make these hints display a shorter version, but give a detailed one after a pause, like the attached GIF shows (from a 3DS Max)? Two second delay is a bit too large, to my taste, but it’s there!

    Why can’t every item in Preferences have a hover hint?

17. Please provide an option to not create compound paths with Pathfinder's crop/clipping function.

    When objects completely overlap, recent versions of Illustrator now use compound paths. While this method is indeed superior in that it allows for non-destructive re-editing, I preferred the previous irreversible clipping even when objects completely overlapped. If you can't revert it back, could you at least add an irreversible option?

18. Offset Path - Option to offset to one side of path only

    I wish the "Offset Path" gave me the option to offset the path to one side of the path only.

    When creating labels for linear features on a map it is useful to create an offset version of the line you are labeling (road, river, etc.) and place the type on that path. Sometimes you can just copy the path and nudge it above or below the line that needs to be labeled, and type along that path. But this doesn't always work nicely if the path curves a lot.

    Offsetting a single line in Illustrator results in a path that encircles that line. Adding type to this is problematic and requires manually cutting the offset path at both ends and deleting the part you won't use for labeling. On a map with hundreds of linear labels this is wasted time.

    The AG Offset tool from the Astute Graphics plugin accomplishes this task pretty well, but it is literally the only tool in the whole Astute Graphics suite that I use...to the cost of $149/year. It sure would be great if I could just accomplish this in Illustrator and not have to pay for an entire suite of plugins to accomplish this.

19. Proper UI for text box conversions between auto-width, auto-height, and fixed-height

    The current way to convert text boxes feels very cumbersome. There really should be a 3 item toggle (properties panel?) for quick conversions to:

    Single height
    Fixed height
    Auto height

    And there shouldn't be an overset text penalty if converting to single height.

20. Placeholder Spot Color Swatch Assigned in Illustrator Then Defined in InDesign (and other Adobe Apps - especially AE and Premier)

    This would be a joint effort between AI and INDD. But being able to assign a spot color swatch placeholder to a graphic like any other spot swatch (with tint support) that can then be assigned via the links panel in InDesign.

    Often I need to color coordinate graphics with a document I am building in InDesign. I typically do this by either generating multiple artboards or layers with the variations I need. But sometimes for one-off projects or projects where there may need to be many variations it just makes the AI file much more cumbersome to deal with.

    If I could assign a spot color in AI and then in INDD alter/adjust that color definition (ideally per instance but even just per link) that would be awesome. Then it would export and be read by Acrobat or other RIP software as if it was the spot color I assigned.

    Additionally this placeholder functionality should pass through when saved as an Illustrator native PDF (.ai.pdf files are so much more versatile in InDesign than .ai files)
