  1. Numerate / Numbering / Sequential numbers / Number sequence / Auto-serialize

As a function of the transform tool, or perhaps a tool in it's own right, a feature to numerate copies in sequence and/or apply fully scanning bar or QR codes. E.g. raffle tickets, concert tickets, coupons, vouchers, etc.

This would be invaluable as a time-saving measure, and allow an artist/designer to keep something like tickets completely in-house. I've been working with Illustrator for 15 years, and to my knowledge there's no feature that does anything like this. When I design concert or raffle tickets I have to use a 3rd party vendor, pretty much just for the bar code and…

  3. Linked Text 'Artworking Info' Panels/Tables

When setting up artwork sheets, we often have to use the same job info across many artboards - it would be great to have 'linked' information/type, so when you update text in a textbox/panel on one artboard it will automatically update on other artboards.

This could be done either by a table/panel which update, or being able to select individual pieces of info that you wish to auto-update.

This would be a massive timesaver when artworking!

    Thanks!

  4. path eraser tool - erasing multiple path selection (worked in CS5, does not in CC)

I jumped from CS5 to the current CC version of illustrator. As a technical illustrator, I often need to erase portions of paths. The easiest method for accomplishing this task is to select all the paths I intend to erase portions of using the "path eraser tool" and simply go from path to path erasing what I need using the "path eraser tool". This function works properly in CS5 but at some point afterwards has been lost.

However, as soon as you erase a portion of the first path, all selected paths are unselected except for the current path being…

  6. Have stroke type selection like in InDesign

InDesign has a great feature in the Stroke Panel where you can select different types of strokes - like dashed, dotted, wavy, etc.

It would be great if Illustrator had the same feature.

  7. Eyedropper shortcut

If I have a box with a gradient stroke (as an example) and I want to then fill it, if I use the eyedropper to grab the color from another object, it overrides and deletes the stoke. I would like to be able to use the eyedropper on fill or stroke without deleting it's counterpart. Right now it's a long process of clicking off my shape, eyedropping the color, copying the color value, reselecting the object, double clicking the fill or stroke, and pasting in the value. It adds up to a lot of time lost for something that should…

To make Eyedropper pick and apply only fill, without modifying the stroke, you need to open the tool’s options, and uncheck the ‘Focal Stroke’ option in the left column. This will force Illustrator to ignore the stroke from the source object, and your target object will keep its original stroke.

Use other options there to fine tune the tool to your needs.

There is a similar resolved request that is about the same thing — https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/333657/suggestions/38241262

  8. Contextual Pie-menus, like Radiant menus by Wacom

creating a contextual "shortcut" menu overlapping layer to access quickly Tools. This is a kind of Radiant Menu developed by Wacom on their tablet for example or Alias marking menu. This should really improve workflow ergonomics.

  9. Import SVG fill-rule="evenodd"

This is a major problem for having SVG look correct.

Please import fill-rule="evenodd" properly. Test case of an "O" that imports incorrectly (as fill-rule="nonzero") without the hole in the middle. Illustrator gets this wrong, but XD imports it properly. Some additional issues:

    1. Ref-ing the same mask crashes Illustrator.
    2. Nested masks don't import properly.
    3. Gradient and image transforms and patterns (fit/fill/tile) don't import

  10. More Pattern Tiling Options

In Illustrator, it would be some next level powerful stuff if we could tile patterns based on shapes like these attached (as well as just blocks and hexagon). They are all based on a single shape that tessellates.

  11. Deactivate unused functions

An option to deactivate unused functions. In that way we could not only deactivate keyboard shortcuts (which it's already doable), but also speed up loading times and work flow.

  12. (Prepress Features 2) Channel mixer

I use a lot the Channel mixer option in photoshop, cause i need to convert CMYK photos into lets say CM plus 2 or 3 spot colors, then I need to do the same in illustrator for vector illustrations and I dont want to convert this vector into pixels, I wana keep it vector to mantain the quality.

I know I can import the file as a smart object into photoshop but better if I can do it directly in Illustrator.

  13. Add Frames for images and text like in InDesign

In InDesign it's possible to add frames for text and imagery, and although Illustrator isn't necessarily the layout application — it would be great to get this feature on it too.

  14. Exporting Slices

Exporting slices should not force the creation of an "images" folder. I need to be able to export a slice and save it/overwrite to a folder of my choosing, exactly like a standard Save As. Currently, Illustrator will create and nest an images folder every single time....what a waste.

  16. Unlink assets from Creative Libraries

After I drop an asset from the library in a document, I want to be able to unlink it, and remove dependencies to an external library.
In my case, I'm using library to build products that I'm selling, so when I export the products for sale, I need to remove the dependencies to these libraries.

Any designer who sell his products, or share with people external to a team, would have the same need.

We need to keep the flexibility of using a library (to update changes through multiple documents), but we need to make these documents self sufficient.

As stated in the comments, one can place a library item as an unlinked copy with Opt/Alt+dragging on canvas. To embed linked copies, a user can press the Embed button in Control / Properties panels, or choose Embed Image(s) command from the Links panel's flyout menu.

  17. Set the default EPS version with options

I work often in projects with collaborators from all over the world. We save our work in EPS and we have standardized on CS5. We are generally scientists, so we are most likely an exception; however, a way to set "project specific" defaults would be helpful that would allow to set the EPS save options.

  19. Gradient properties in the properties panel

I am liking the new properties panel, but currently if i want to fill an object with a gradient, i still need to access this via its own window. Would be great if gradient options could be incorporated into the Appearance section of the Properties Panel

  20. Custom Measured Units for Accurate Drawing

Today I zoom into the pixel level to draw 'in scale' - I would love the option to create custom units of measurement for my drawing and then have Snapping, Grids and Measuring Tools utilize them.

For instance, make a illustration of a floor plan at scale but decide on 50px = 1 virtual foot. I could label this 'Feet' and accurately size lines and objects using this increment of measurement.

Would be fantastic for my furniture and architecture sketching, as well as for many other hobbyists and professionals who know they get a more presentable result from Illustrator than…
