How to select non filled shapes just by clicking on their surface?
How can I select a shape/object without a fill just by clicking on its surface?
I don't want to click on the stroke, since that's slower and less practical than clicking on the middle of the shape, I don't want to click on layers nor any slower way to do it.If what I want is not possible, then that would be a very clear sign that Adobe is very, VERY stubborn against selecting by clicking on the middle of the shapes, for no reason at all, since there's no problem in putting an option for it on the settings…

Recolor Artwork Swatch Replacement
I would like a simple interface where I can see what colors are being used in my document and have the ability to select colors and replace them with swatches (either from the swatches panel, a cc library, or by entering values). The current process of merging/replacing swatches in the swatch panel is time consuming and frustrating. Seems like the recolor artwork panel should have this functionality. I don't want to scale tints or use color groups. A use case for this is making sure an illustration only uses brand colors, or if you need to update an illustration with…
2 votesYou can do this using the Recolor panel (the full one, that is under Advanced Options). It’s quite straightforward, although not obvious.
Double-click the small color chip under in the New column, and the Color Picker dialog appear. Then click the Color Swatches button and choose a swatch you need. No hustle with the scaling of tints or putting your swatches in color groups, it’s that simple.

Touch Type improvements
Touch Type is a nice tool that is still unfinished.
- Can’t select several glyphs at once (not by Shift+clicking, not with a marquee)
- Can’t constrain rotations to 45° by holding Shift
- Can’t constrain movements to axes by holding Shift
- Can’t select a glyph when it’s even partially obscured by another one next to it
- Can’t reset selection to original states via on-screen controls
- Snap to Glyphs obviously doesn’t work with it (imagine if it would have)
- There is no way to apply changes to one glyph without shifting all glyphs to the right…20 votes -
Data feature within illustrator
It is possible to merge data from excel, but it would also be a fantastic feature to have an excel feature within illustrator. You can fill a table with datasets and link the data to elements multiple times in different artboards. To change an element everywhere you just need to change it in the table (like objects, but only the data). So several different text boxes and different links to imported images can be edited at once. Would be a great feature for all different sizes for Social Media posts. You set up several different sizes change the content once…

alt click swatches to add colors to a selected gradient
With a gradient object selected, it would be much quicker to alt click swatches from the swatch panel to add to current selection
2 votesThis is exactly how it works now — Alt+clicking a swatch applies it to selected gradient stop. Please comment if it’s not what you had in mind.

Renaming Layer Shortcut Keys!
Hello there Illustrator Devs!.
I just wanted to ask about a very simple feature but until today it hasn't been added to the Illustrator App
can you add a shortcut to rename a layer?. it is important for motion graphic artists to rename all the layers so it will be clear which layer for each object in after effects.
double-clicking is ok but it seems to be more efficient if I can bind some hotkeys to rename layers because using hotkeys or shortcuts just requires one hand only rather than using a mouse.
I will appreciate it if you consider…

Preserve Names When Adding Color to Swatches From Library
If you add a color to Swatches from a Library, the name of the color is lost and defaults to the RGB or CMYK values. It would be nice if those names were preserved.

Duplex Printing Control
Operating System macOS Big Sur 11.5.1
Adobe Illustrator version 25.4The current print process is printing duplex, despite the fact that the printer option is marked as NOT duplex - likewise there is no option for duplex on the illustrator print dialog.

Delete all saved selections
There is no way to quickly delete all the saved selections (displayed in the bottom of the Select menu, once you saved them via 'Select > Save Selection...').
You have to do it one by one, which is a torture. Also you can’t just right-click a name of it right there in the menu and say 'Delete' — because you have no context menu for top menu items. You do not like context menus in general.

Bulk re-naming of layers
Allow users to select multiple layers and re-name them all at once. I prep layered files all the time for use in AE and often have layers that are all the same type (eg: box).
The user could shift-select the layers, then right-click and select "Re-name layers". Perhaps there could be an extra option (checkbox) to automatically number them, based on the order in which they were selected.
Alternately, you could add a keyboard modifier - so if they re-name a layer by double-clicking it, then if they hit Shift-Return, it would activate the name of the next layer down…

Tab Indent. Just like Indesign. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!
Setting Tab Indents with bullet points, like InDesign.
Being able to tab, set measurement and line up paragraph indents. We need this because there are times when we do packaging/signs that have bullets that need tab indents that are controllable and that line up to the text on the next line.
Shortcut = Command + | (set line indent)
Every designer has wanted this for decades.

Alt+drag to duplicate multiple spline knots and segments
Up until the Illustrator 23.1.1 update, splines with overlapping knots and multiple selected spline segments could be duplicated easily by:
1) using the "A" select tool to select individual knots or segments of a path,
2) region-dragging to select several knots,
3) begin dragging then quickly hold down the ALT key before releasing
This would duplicate the knot and it's connected and the newly created connected segments. If only segments were selected, then the new segments were created while dragging, <important!> keeping their anchor knots where they originated at either end of the spline. It was a very efficient tool…2 votes -
Resize Images Shortcut
When resizing images or objects, there should be a way to constantly have things stay proportionate without having to hold down shift the entire time. I would suggest the caps lock key since it carries the same function when typing out letters.

symbol marker in preview and outline view
I'd like to see a symbol "marker" of some sort to quickly identify symbols used on a layout, much like the pilcrow and other typographic characters used in InDesign (that can be turned On or Off). These "markers" should be visible in both Preview and Outline views. Thanks. A.C.

Would it be possible to have the find font panel be in alphabetical order, like Indesign is?
alphabetical order of fonts in the find font list, would make comparing the fonts used to an outside folder of fonts much easier.

Magic Grid
Hi!
I would like to have a new tool: a kind of semi-elastic placement aid. Our team designs packagings and often has to adapt layouts to new die cuts, so objects often have to be moved, but must not change in size themselves. Sometimes a logo exists in three different sizes, which must be chosen depending on the total height. In addition, they must adhere to minimum distances, which may also not be scaled. However, the design often follows a grid, e.g. a logo must be on the vertical at 5/13 of the total height. So I imagine a kind…
