  1. Since the last update I have no been able to clock the import font from type kit button

    Please help. I am trying to import the motor font. It has disappeared from my computer and i can no longer click the button to add new fonts thanks

  2. Illustrator file not movable

    If i make an Illustrator file (cc 2019) , and say place it in the desktop folder, if i move that file to the documents folder, open it and change it, it saves the new version on the dekstop again.

    is this a bug or a feature i dont know of?

    It’s a common behavior for all files and all editors out there, not only Illustrator.

    When you 'open' a file, the editor reads it and 'hold in its mind', making a virtual copy basically. When you save it, it writes it back the disk, to the location where it was read from. Illustrator does not track what the OS does with the file, and OS never tells Illustrator that a user moved the file elsewhere, or deleted.

    An editor can lock the file, so nothing can move or delete or rename it, but this method causes more troubles and frustration. It’s safer to never let the data to get lost.

  4. Smart/Adaptive Cross-Colorspace Swatches

    It's industry standard to define brand colors in more than one colorspace. Usually you have at least PMS, CMYK and RGB definitions of each brand color you're deploying.

    I'd love it if Illustrator (or the whole CC suite, as a matter of fact) would help this routine, like this:

    Let's have a new swatch type: Cross-Colorspace Swatch. This special swatch type would enable the designer to define variations of the color in any/all color spaces, inside that one swatch definition.

    Instead of defining say three different swatches, you would define one, saying: "This is Brand color 1. In cmyk colorspace…

  5. CGM Import

    Enable Ai to import CGMs that have Active X controls. I export CGMs from an IETM, but do not need to retain the embedded links within the CGM file. Allow Ai to import Active X CGMs and disable Active X. May want to display popup window stating Active X will be lost unless save imported CGM as a new file.

  7. When I try to type something it is shown with some prepared text

    When i try to click the T button to create new text, it is shown already made some text example with a tag. This tag is hidden and if I click "show hidden character" it is shown with #.
    Can I start with completely blind text function without this suggested pre-made alphabet arrangement looks like some word (but doesn't make sense, it is just look like preview of the text)?

    The # symbol marks is included into any text at all, to help designers to see where text ends. There are other hidden characters that mark column breaks, paragraph returns, line breaks, special space symbols, etc.

    The text that gets inserted when you create a new text helps to quickly see how text would behave on canvas with set font parameters. You can disable this option in Preferences > Type > Fill New Type Objects With Placeholder Text, if you find this irritating.

  8. Please restore "Lettering" in the Trace presets

    I cannot match prior documents with the new advanced settings.
    I trace documents of text to be made into glass etchings and the previous "Lettering" preset in CS 5.5. Illustrator was perfect but the new sliders don't produce results as clean as previously.

  9. Shortcut for Delete Layer

    I'd like a custom shortcut for deleting a layer. I could, of course, record an action and assign one of the F keys (F5, F6, etc), but I don't want to use the F keys.

  10. Please consider resizing second artboard (14,400 x 14,400) on video presets

    While the second artboard on the video presets is incredibly useful so imported art doesn't get cut off in After Effects, it is unnecessarily large. I can't imagine that anyone is actively storing art to be animated from off screen 7,000 pixels above or below the main artboard. Many people think this artboard is a mistake, but it would be far more useful if it were about 3000x3000 in a 1920x1080 document. Hitting Cmd/Ctrl+1 to "Fit Artboard to View" often zooms out to show the gigantic artboard because it is automatically selected any time you click outside of the main…

  11. Do not silently turn on "Turn off data recovery for complex documents"

    I feel great sadness typing this. The whole auto save feature is intended to quietly SAVE stuff if Illustrator goes belly up. This is extra valid for complex documents. Why ON EARTH would Illustrator silently turn off this feature for the VERY DOCUMENTS it is designed for?

    Please: notify a user if Illustrator, for any reason, decides to mess with the autosave feature. But mostly just don't turn it off if a user has it turned on. Just don't.

  12. When I toggle panels by pressing tab, please do not move my view.

    In Illustrator:
    (Make sure to have some docked panels)
    Press tab, have a look at your screen.
    Press tab again, look at your screen again.
    WHY DID IT MOVE? It's an expensive repaint, and costs performance on complex documents. Please don't do this :(

  13. Accents / Diacritics accessibility

    i'm using Illustrator and I need to type in Portuguese/Spanish so i need to use accents like áàê

    Everywhere else on Mac OS if I long press the key I get an accent pop up, like this:

    In Illustrator, this never shows up.

    I know there are workarounds (glyphs window, other mac shortcuts and keyboard viewer) but none of those is practical.
    That accent pop up is shown everywhere else in the system except for Illustrator, which is very frustrating

  14. NEW PERSPECTIVE TOOL

    Make perspective tool with curves like cylinder so that designers can easily drag drop their design to bend them easily . Sorry if Iam wrong.

    Can you draw a mockup? Even a crude one can help to understand the exact idea you have.


    Recent versions of Illustrator have new 3D and Materials tools, which allow to create bent cylinders and other shapes. Please comment back.

    Too small to use?
    When scaling down a complex drawing especially one created by image trace it often says cannot complete the operation because it would make some objects too small to use. So how can i scale my group? Can you just disappear those objects? If they are too small to use they must be too small to see so make them go away. Or it could automatically select them so you have the option to delete them. It seems silly that i can't make something the size i need because a part of it is too small to…

  17. Keeping my tool preference

    Since Adobe's CC platform, I actually dread major updates because they seem to wipe my user preferences forgetting all my shortcuts and forcing me behavioural changes each and single updates.

    The latest was the disappearance of Illustrator knife tool from my tool set. Little did I know that the knife tool is under advanced tool section, and that I needed to switch to my tool to advanced mode in order to use the knife tool. There may have been other nifty Adobe ways to access it, but I just simply don't have time to relearn all that stuff.

  18. Remove 'move' function mapping from the Return/Enter key.

    The "move" function pop-up menu is activated by both "Shift + Command M" as well as the Return/Enter key. You are able to clear the "Shift + Command M" function by using Edit Keyboard Shortcuts, but the Return/Enter key will still engage this pop-up menu when an object is selected. Being close to the Shift key, it's constantly triggered on accident and it's not (as far as I can tell) currently possible to remove this function from being mapped to the Return/Enter Key.

  19. Bring Back Hold Shift to Restrict Gradient Movement

    In prior versions of Illustrator, when adjusting the composition of a gradient using the Gradient tool, you used to be able to hold Shift to constrict the gradients movement to the Y or X axis.

    Please bring this back as it is a quick and seamless way to align the gradient composition exactly instead of eyeballing it.

  20. Transparency Masks should appear in layers panel like Clipping Masks

    I like how Clipping Masks show up in the Layers panel as a "<Clip Group>", which you can expand to see the object being used as the mask and the object being masked. However, Transparency Masks do not show up at all in the Layers panel; you have to remember to open up the Transparency panel to see and interact with them. In a document with a mix of Clipping Masks and Transparency Masks, this is really confusing and makes the Transparency Masks easy to forget about.
