Option to put Properties Panel at the top of the workspace.
For those of us who find it more convenient for the Properties to be at the top of our workspace, we should be able to click and drag the properties panel into the default space along the top of the window.

adobe illustrator CC 2018 I pay for monthly. The switch from color photo to grayscale feature not available
the Grayscale from color photo feature is not available in my adobe illustrator CC 2018 I pay by the month for. I have to switch photo to grayscale in illustrator 6 then open in CC2018. How can this be corrected. Jer-Anny /Jerry L. Evans

Option for "Don't collapse panel"
I never want Layers panel to collapse completely when I enlarge other panels. Other panels are less important to my workflow and I don't mind what they do, but I'd like to have the option to lock open a heavily-used panel so I'm not constantly having to expand it.

When embedding images flatten all images option without having to scroll through each one
When embedding my links to go to press I have multiple links and it is redundant to ask everytime if I want to flatten each image one by one. There should be an option to flatten all highlighted images in one shot. If I have 70 documents to go to press with 30 links each it can get very time consuming.

Show how many artboards are selected
Since we can have multiple artboards selected and this selection isn't very noticeable (which should be fixed too), why not to show how many artboards are selected?
Just say how many in empty 'Name:' field, since it shows nothing when more is one artboard is selected, in brackets or different color.24 votes -
Trim paths
Like in After Effects the option to trim a line. When you have an extra line on an object, the one above can be trimmed. Ending with a line with two color ends.
No more stacking multiple lines and having to edit them all if the shape changes.4 votes -
Recolor multiple layers panel layers at the same time
In Photoshop, you can select multiple layers, and add a color marker at the same time to all of them. I often use the colors of layers in Illustrator for UI and packaging design to separate visually which layers are finished (green), and which ones I still need to work on (red). But I have to double click each layer one by one in order to change the color.
8 votesYep, there is a way to change the color of edges for a selection of layers — 'Options for Selection' command in the Layers panel’s flyout menu.
But perhaps the original poster meant colored backgrounds to mark layers? Like Photoshop allows to and like we can do with actions in button mode?
If yes — please make a separate request about this.

Gradient annotator as a palette and snap to gradient points
Allows you to then retain the annotator when dragging guides or other objects, and using other tools. Could work in a similar way to the Tabs palette.
Also it would be really useful if you could snap objects or guides to the gradient points on the sliders.

Knobs.
Just more knobs. There should be a knob next to every input that takes an angle value. The Scribble effect has one. The Gradient palette doesn't. The Transform palette has one but it could use another one along with a couple of text input boxes as an option to move an object a specified distance along a particular angle instead of moving it in X and Y. The angle value in the transform section of Properties doesn't have a knob. Scatter brush options have two horizontal sliders and no knobs. Put a knob next to each of those sliders…

Option to have Anchor and/or Control Points always visible in Preview and/or Outline modes
Sometimes it would be nice to see the anchor points of other objects, when drawing a new object. It would be nice if you could add an option to the outline mode that would not only show all lines but also every anchor point, no matter if the a path is selected or not.

Add 'bold/heavy' and 'italic/oblique' and similar features to the Font filter options.
I'm sitting here designing a character for my current comic, and part of this task involves deciding which font works best for their dialogue. Or which font family; I need to have at least one option for emphasis. Maybe two, bold and italic kind of imply different tones of voice.
I have a lot of fonts that are parts of families and have italic/oblique/bold/heavy/black variants. I also have variable fonts that include weight and angle/*****/etc sliders. And I also have a lot of fonts that have none of these options.
It would be very helpful if I could…

Select Fill or Stroke Does Not Make Selection Automatically Edit-Ready
For years I have been frustrated with how anytime I want to edit fills or strokes, Illustrator seems to ALWAYS have the wrong choice forward in the tools panel! It seems to always know when I want to edit strokes, because it always has fills ready to edit in the foreground swatch and vice-versa! All these years I just felt is was some sort of voodoo thing, but I finally realized why this happens to me the majority of the time. I use Select>Same>Fill Color, Select>Same>Stroke Color, Select>Same>Stroke Weight all the time. The main reason I make those…

"Notes" text field on the "Swatch Options" dialogue
It would be a huge help to have a "notes" text field on the "Swatch Options" dialogue so we could include notes and other meta data about a given swatch to convey to other designers or collaborators.

Select Same / Larger / Smaller Size
The Select Same Color, Appearance, Opacity is quite helpful. Add a new option for Size. The area size of the current selected element would be calculated and then used to find other similar objects within the document that meet that same area size.
A tolerance up or down or range could be provided as well. It would also be helpful to offer a setting for "Select Anything this size and smaller/larger".
This kind of feature would be very helpful when attempting to clean up an illustration generated from a live traced sketch.

Include Photoshop's Gamut Warning feature
Photoshop has a great feature that, in the color picker, greys out any colors unavailable in CMYK. This makes choosing appropriate colors for a project much faster and easier. It would be nice if Illustrator had this same functionality.

Select objects to then apply auto selection criteria
Once objects are selected apply the auto select criteria such as "same fill color" or "same outline". If this is possible, I can't figure out how to do it. I can only choose to select all of the items of a single color, because I have items already selected. Also, it would be great for quotes to be able to get a quick total of the number of items selected. Is this information listed somewhere on screen that I've never noticed?

'Exclude stroke width' option in Transform effect
When I apply Transform effect to a stroked object, Illustrator includes stroke width and the resulting effect isn't aligned to the main object's skeleton. Consider that I want to mirror a shape and what I expect is the paths to perfectly align to each other. But what happens is that Illustrator treats strokes like they are expanded paths. I usually have to move the effect to correct it.
There should be an option in Transform effect that let the user exclude stroke width from effect. That would resolve this issue.

Add hotkey (key command) option for panel flyout menus
There are a number of (small) requests for specific items in flyout menus — I’d like to consolidate that, here, into a GENERAL request in the hopes that it will get a larger response. You may not care if Cmd-J (Ctr-J for PC folks) will duplicate a layer as in Photoshop, but maybe you want to be able to create a new swatch with the key press of your choice.
Hotkey users of the world, unite!
