It would be useful to have options to not allow any of these with option to always keep x amount of words together on last line of para.

Tie a child shape to parent shape to keep it aligned to parent when resized
Hi everyone,
I posted this as a question in the Illustrator forum (here's the original thread https://community.adobe.com/t5/illustrator/set-shapes-as-child-and-parent-objects-for-dynamic-box-designs/m-p/11688904?page=1#M256580) and was suggested to submit this as a feature request here.
I design boxes in Illustrator for precise cutting in my Silhouette machine. The main problem I encounter with is when I make a box which its shapes are all perfectly aligned, but I then find that I need to tweak its interior size. When I'm doing so I have to re-align all the different pieces of the box shapes such as the spines, wings, etc, since there's no option to tie…

Allow to choose file version when saving AIT templates
One of our designers still use old version of AI.
We need to share newly created templates (.ait) with her.
But AI doesn't give options when saving templates!
So I'm forced to save to .ai first, choose CS6 version and then change extension by hand. Why can't I see same options for templates?

Local saves with Version control
We need an option to create a project file that cannot be saved over. The reason for this is that when working with a client who has many options, we sometimes need to step back in time or recover older versions from unexpected changes.
Similar to an Illustrator template file (.ait), we could have a format like .aiv or .aivi. This way, when I save flyer.aiv, every save will generate a backup file flyer-250204817.ai next to the current file.
It would also be useful to have an option in a settings pane to save a backup every other save…

Have a panel that shows info and keyboard modifiers for the current tool
All Adobe applications are quite complex beasts, and what all the tools do and particularly what holding different modifiers or keys do can be quite arcane.
I imagine a panel you can have open on the side, and it will show information and the modifier options for the currently active tool.
For instance for the Star tool, it can say what Shift, Option and Command keys do, and that you can press Arrow Up and Arrow Down to increase the number of points as you drag.
Pro users can keep the panel closed, but it can really help new…

Numbered List - Choose at which number we wish to start the list.
Hi, It would be great if we could rearrange the order of lists for Numbered List options.
You choose which "Levels" the numbering is but what if under that you would have the option to select at which number to start, 2...3...4 or whatever number we wish to insert.

Smooth Tool slider applies to a partial selection. Make a way to quickly apply it to the full selection
According to Madelyn Renaud (form here: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/938463/suggestions/46987777):
'I also have not been able to find the option for a global selection vs local, so the tool continues to isolate a single edge, forcing me to return to the selection tool and re-select the other elements to begin smoothing again. It's horrible and has made a smooth workflow into something clunky and annoying. Please change the smooth tool back to the way it was before!'
Indeed, when using the slider together with Smooth tool, Ai selects the portion of the path which has just been affected by the tool. The slider…

Save A Copy Action with current name of file
Currently, if you create an Action and go to File > Save A Copy... with a PDF Preset and in specific folder or desktop etc., it saves the file name that you create the Action with in the Action.
It doesn't update to the new file you are applying the action to. So if you run this action on several documents they all save over each other unless you manually change the file name in the operating system.
It would be nice if there was an option that lets you add the file name to which the action is being…11 votes -
Paste into selected object
Very easy to paste easily from the clipboard to the selected object.
⌘ + alt + shift = paste into selected object.Currently, the option is complicated and not intuitive. A lot of time.

The ability to check an option for "convert lines to shapes" when I export different formats
When exporting a file to SVG.... I wish there was a check box where I can specify it converts all lines to shapes on export to SVG... This way I do not have to do the conversion manually... and then revert back when I save ai version...
Often I get messages that distract me and then I forget to revert back and accidentally save the ai version with lines as shapes... then my mast ai version gets messed up...
3 votesHi Steve,
Thanks a lot for reporting the feature request. When you say shape do you mean you want lines to get converted to SVG elements? Does this apply to the other shapes like, ellipse, circle or rectangles as well?
Greetings,

Easy setting of layer's opacity and 'Target Selected'
Some users still find confusing setting opacity to whole layer.
When they change opacity value in Transparency palette with no art selected, it does nothing or (if 'New Art has Basic Appearance' is unticked in Appearance palette options) applied to new objects. The way transparency is set for a layer in AI is not that obvious, compared to Photoshop's way, and require from user knowledge of working with appearance.
I propose this:
1. Make a shortcut for 'Target Current Layer' command, which is not anywhere now (or even 'Target Selected', which will target current layer, if nothing is selected) …25 votes -
Masking objects or their parts - simple and fast.
Masking with "Make clipping mask" is often practical and fast. Great! Thank you.
I am asking you to modernize this method of creating a mask:- new option: Invert Mask
When I want to mask a part of an object quickly, but in only within the shape of my mask. For example, a hole in the facility.
new option: Add or create an "Opacity Mask" from the object above.
Such a practical shortcut to create a mask of the "Opacity Mask (alpha canal)" type from a selected object, eg with a griadient. Now, creating an Opacity mask is overly…

Rotate, scale, skew, transform selected objects separately
If we make a selection of objects, and then rotate it with a corner marker of the bounding box (or with the Rotate tool), they get rotated all at once, as a single object.
If we want to rotate all separate objects in the selection separately, the only way to do it is with the Transform Each dialog, with Preview option on, with arrow keys, changing the Angle value. Doable, but not fun.
What if we get a mode, at least for the Rotate tool (since it’s a special tool for rotating), let’s say, with Ctrl/Cmd held, to rotate object…10 votes -
Import (or convert) Adobe Sketch and Adobe Draw files as paths instead of shapes
Please give an option in Illustrator to import or convert Adobe Sketch files as paths instead of shapes.

Embedding Linked Illustrator content should embed the native content instead of the PDF version.
When you place a Linked Illustrator object (from a file or from a CC Library) and later decide to Embed it, you actually embed the PDF content of the linked file. This results in many groups, clipping masks, reduced editability (no Appearance effects, Symbols, Brushes) and loss of layers.
The optimal editable way would be to embed the native objects instead of the PDF version, similar to Copy and Paste with the Paste Remembers Layers option turned on.7 votes -
Appearance Variables
Imagine I have several drop shadows, with different colors, but same offset and blur values. Now I want to change the horizontal offset for all of them at once. Even if I use styles, it would require me change each style I have manually.
With Appearance variables though, I could have use something like '%h_shadow' in effects’ values’ fields, in all of these shadows, and set it equal to an actual numerical value in one place.
So, once I change it, every other shadow will adapt this immediately.16 votes -
Save all modified files simultaneously
I would like to see the option for "Save All..." added to the file menu. There are many times when I am preflighting and prepping multiple open files related to the same project. Instead of cycling through to each file and saving, I would like to have the ability to save all modified files at the same time.

Allow for negative value input and Option click with Line Segment Tool
The original idea by Johan Perjus, from https://medium.com/design-bootcamp/things-i-wish-adobe-would-address-with-adobe-illustrator-4796a89e1bae
As you may know, holding down the Option key and clicking on your artboard with any of the shape tools (Rectangle, Ellipse, Polygon, Star) creates the shape centered on where you clicked, as opposed to the right and down from where you clicked. Please also apply this function to the Line Segment Tool as well as allow for negative value input in order to create the line in the opposite direction of the current angle value, just as you can enter a negative value to move an object in the opposite direction…

Make it easier as a new user to fill a shape
There's no fill or paintbucket tool. For new users this is really yucky. I am trying to use the paintbrush tool and I keep selecting a fill color since that is the only thing I can find that has anything to do with filling but as soon as I go to draw with the paintbrush the fill color I selected vanishes and is replaced with that no fill icon. It doesn't make any sense to me and is really hard to use. Why not make your interface more intuitive for these most common things people would want to do…
1 voteBrushes in Illustrator use stroke color rather than fill, because a brushed stroke is a stroke. This is just how it works and it most probably won’t be changed ever.
