Allow strokes in brush and pencil tools to be shown in real time while drawing
When you draw lines with freehand tools (pencil/brush), the stroke doesn't show up until after you finish it and release. It just shows as a thin blue line. It doesn't account for thickness so I end up having to redo lines because I can't see what they look line until I finish drawing each line.

Pan tool wrap
When you pan with the mouse button/wheel held down, the panning stops when the cursor reaches the monitor edges. This forces user to release mouse, move it all the way back and re-grab it.
In some other editors you can continue to move the pointer and it will 'wrap' around your monitor, going from the opposite side of it, until released.Basically you can pan until you reach the end of your table.
This mode will help those who have to work at scale and pan without unzooming. Please, add it!

tabs and text options
Tabulations should be embedded in the tex box and appear only when you press on the box and disappears when you click somewhere else. By default, it should also resize and follow the tex box on screen at all time without requiring you to click on the magnet to put it back where it belong.
Also, the text options of Illustrator are lacking some very useful options that only exist in InDesign. I understand that Indesign is THE BIG SOFTWARE FOR TEXT, but honestly for smaller text oriented documents, I often use Illustrator because it's faster to operate. So, some features exclusive to InDesign should be ported to Illustrator like the possibility to create quick bullet points and to change the space between the border of the box and the text. Good job though for recently adding vertical alignement 😉 .

Add grep/regex to Find and Replace feature
We really need some kind of grep or pattern matching in the Find and Replace dialogue.
I don't expect it to be InDesign-level functionality, but after all this time even rudimentary grep would be a blessing.
Maybe the Bridge regex could be adapted to Illustrator somehow...

An option to have the same color for new layers
Can you create a preference that makes every new layer use the same colour? The first thing I have to do when creating a new layer is to change the colour back to light blue (my preferred colour). I understand why a user might want different colours but I cannot see many of them with my colour vision deficiency. Thank you very much.

Path-to-path collision snapping
It would be incredibly useful to have, for example, two circles snap to each other not only at the anchor points but also at any point along the paths. This would help a lot when using Shape Builder tool, because at the moment most of the time you either get a tiny gap between the shapes (then the Shape Builder tool doesn't work), or the shapes overlap (then the Shape Builder tool leaves unnecessary anchor points which you have to meticulously fix).

Support SVG Tiny P/S
Support SVG Tiny P/S :: https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-svg-tiny-ps-abrotman/
This is part of the work on BIMI (bimigroup.org), but we hope that this format will have a wider use case. It's a smaller profile than Tiny. The format may change in the future, but perhaps initial support could be created.

Where is Project Lincoln?
I notice that there isn't even an option to comment on the ridiculously archaic graphic tool in Illustrator that hasn't been updated, as much as I can remember, since the early 2000s.
WHERE IS PROJECT LINCOLN? Why is this such a black box for Adobe? Why do you not address this AT ALL?! I don't know if you've been paying attention, but there is a LOT of data going around these days and we could USE SOME @#$%ING HELP!
UPDATE THE GRAPHING FUNCTION!!!!

Allow Warp Effects to distort linear gradient
When you turn on distorting linear gradients (Object > Envelope Distort > Envelope options: Distort Linear Gradients Fill), AI still won't do it when you use Warp Effects (Effect > Warp). This should be fixed.
I'd even extend this option to treat other gradients types, not only linear.

Double click Blend in Appearance to edit Blend parameters
Double click Blend in Appearance to edit Blend parameters.
Would be logical, doesn't it?
But nothing happens when double clicked.13 votes -
Perspective mode for Free Distort effect
Free Distort effects, being a bit outdated with it's detached preview window, comes out Super Tool with Stylism plugin installed. But it could do so much better if there would be a tick, that turns distortion into a perspective one, as the tool with the same name allows to do. That would allow us to distort stuff live in perspective (and omit using overcomplicated Perspective Grid for small tasks).

User Customization of Pan + Zoom Interaction
There are varying requests for dealing with Zoom and Pan interaction.
I myself would like to use [MMB = Pan], and [alt/opt+RMB+drag = Zoom] to have coherence with 3d apps I switch between all day. These are ergonomic functions, subjective to user workflow and comfort, so rather than dictate one or another I suggest making them customizable.
FEATURE GOAL:
- Allow customization of basic interactions [Pan and Zoom] in order to:
-- Enhance ergonomics by meeting users in their comfort zone
-- Increase interaction coherence (become more 'glovelike') within a maximum number of workflows
-- Do so in a way that is 'opt-in' and additive to avoid disruption of current useSUGGESTED CHANGE:
- Add a new preference pane [Preferences / Zoom and Pan] with the following items:Pan [LEARN] / [CLEAR], ["DISPLAY CURRENT BIND"]
Click 'Learn' and tap a key or click a mouse button (MMB or RMB), then tap 'Learn' again to bindZoom [LEARN] / [CLEAR], ["DISPLAY CURRENT BIND"]
Click 'Learn' and tap a key or click a mouse button (MMB or RMB), then tap 'Learn' again to bind (drag mouse while engaged to Zoom in/out)Use Scrollwheel as Zoom [CHECKBOX]
When enabled mouse' scrollwheel Zooms in/out
Notes:
- Current [RMB] context menus will always be accessible by way of [ctl+LMB]
- If raw trackpad finger-touch count is available as an input device to AI I recommend allowing this as an option in addition to mouse and keyboard inputs
- There are a lot of ways to approach this, but as a basic and highly-repetitive interaction method building in some dexterity could make a profound difference for many usersThere are varying requests for dealing with Zoom and Pan interaction.

Duplicate File
Like in Photoshop, I'd like an option in Illustrator to duplicate the entire file, opening the duplicate in a new tab.

Touchpad Gestures recognition for Windows
Same gestures as on Mac should be on windows (now that its possible to zoom in and out on a lot of applications in windows 10) - like pinch to zoom and pan

Remove welcome messages
Please remove the welcome messages "Let's design great graphics today, ... " and "Start a new file fast". They are unnecessary and become annoying when you see them all the time. Besides, to me it is totally irritating when a computer program addresses me with my name and even more when it is not at all intended to make a conversation with.

Libraries - Add Ability to Drag-and-Drop Swatches from Library Panel to Swatches Panel
Add ability to drag-and-drop a color swatch from the Library Panel to the Swatches Panel.
The functionality exists in the Library Panel Menu, but can't be executed by drag-and-drop. Drag-and-drop swatches is a age-old UI convention in Illustrator and it feels broken that a user can't currently do this.

Forced column break
Can we get some decent text handling features that mimic at least fundamental options such as column breaks and a table feature within Illustrator? It's been 30 years now can't you get this done for once and for all?

Remove 'move' function mapping from the Return/Enter key.
The "move" function pop-up menu is activated by both "Shift + Command M" as well as the Return/Enter key. You are able to clear the "Shift + Command M" function by using Edit Keyboard Shortcuts, but the Return/Enter key will still engage this pop-up menu when an object is selected. Being close to the Shift key, it's constantly triggered on accident and it's not (as far as I can tell) currently possible to remove this function from being mapped to the Return/Enter Key.

Bring Back Hold Shift to Restrict Gradient Movement
In prior versions of Illustrator, when adjusting the composition of a gradient using the gradient tool, you used to be able to hold shift to constrict the gradients movement to the Y or X axis.
Please bring this back as it is a quick and seamless way to align the gradient composition exactly instead of eyeballing it.
