Adobe Illustrator CC impossibly slow on iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)
We are running Mac OSX 10.12.6 on new iMac.
Is it too much to ask for enhanced performance for a robust iMac retina with 40gb of ram? What with the $600+ annual subscription fee and all... c'mon... Adobe Illustrator CC is lethargic. Just don't get it... where are the updates to enhance performance and improve compatibility with newer macs. This is a vector-based program.
If anybody can offer assistance, thanks!

I am having the similar issue as many, but hopefully trying resolve part of it by getting rid of many unnecessary fonts that are probably effecting my performance in Illustrator CC.
I have a new 4K iMac 2017 With fusion drive and 8GB ram and is horribly slow with Illustrator, have to use Affinity designer to work now...
Just moved to a 4K 32in DELL and the only slow and laggy program is Illustrator, really hard to be productive like this
11 replies on the same issue and Adobe admin say's they couldn't find anything actionable? Well that kinda says it all really doesn't it...
I also am having huge performance problems. I'm using a late 2013 Macbook Pro 15" with 16GB ram. I have 2 external 4k displays connected and a Wacom Intuos tablet. The artwork I'm working on now is only 2.7Mb on the hard disk. There are no embedded images, but I have applied some Illustrator effects.
It is SO PAINFUL to use. For example, when I nudge an element, it takes a couple seconds of mouse spinning before I can do anything further.
Can you please fix??!!
As my artworks are more that 1 or 1.5 GB it starts getting slower and this is without any psd effects.

This problem I am facing is in IMAC.
Awaiting your reply.
Recently started my own business and purchased a new 27 in imac 5k retina, 4.2ghz with the hopes of gaining some efficiency. Still have my 2011 Imac that is still very servicable and so far the purchase of my new imac with Adobe CC has been the most disappointing experience I've had with both Adobe and Apple in my 25+ years of loyalty to both brands and their products. I welcome any advice on how to remedy the problem. I can add more RAM, though I've heard it doesn't help?
Apple and Adobe, put your heads together and fix this for the your long-standing, loyal and hard working customers please!
Same issue with my imac 27inch 5K retina 2017... Looks like you guys have a problem on your hands... I had to use INKSCAPE! To finish a project that had a deadline when I'm paying $49 a month to have software that is supposed to work.
why is this happening?
No solutions yet?
My imac 2018 5k 27 inch is real slow. cant handle photoshop/illustrator cc.
now switched back to old iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2015) which is also slow but responsive at-least.
so who has to fix this , Adobe or apple??
Is 100GB of Ram necessary..
We just purchased 18 new iMacs (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017), and the 2013s are faster—even with High Sierra. This needs to be fixed fast.
I'm having the same problem. Our company just purchased 18 of these new iMacs and the 2013 iMacs are faster!! Really?
Same here. What's amusing is things come almost to a stop when running itunes, very disappointed, ready to plug my 2006 tower back in it performed such much better.

You are definitely not alone.
We are also experiencing similar speed issues with the new 2017 iMacs (24GB memory, 8gb dedicated ATI GPU, fastest i5 option available) . Having also CS6 we've opened the same jobs on that software and found it to respond much faster than CC.
So between the hardware and especially the software there is some kind of issue of optimisation.
