Adobe Illustrator CC impossibly slow on iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)
We are running Mac OSX 10.12.6 on new iMac.
Is it too much to ask for enhanced performance for a robust iMac retina with 40gb of ram? What with the $600+ annual subscription fee and all... c'mon... Adobe Illustrator CC is lethargic. Just don't get it... where are the updates to enhance performance and improve compatibility with newer macs. This is a vector-based program.
If anybody can offer assistance, thanks!

Illustrator is incompatible on 5K screens, you work very slowly, you contract, you wait in front of it. If the Adobe team installs ai cc with Imac 5K and tries it, they will see the problem. But they persistently ignore this problem and the complaints. I repeat, the ai cc is problematic on 5K displays. 2020 imac 5K has serious performance problems with all computers, if you want 128 gb ram, 32 gb graphics card, it will still run very very slow. You can see the difference by installing the application called QuickRes and choosing 2560x1440 non-HiDPI resolution instead of 2560x1440 HiDPI. When HiDPI is active, it slows down as if using ai cc virtual machine ... If you cannot get 5K imac, I can borrow it ... Hear my voice adobe ...

I am having the similar issue as many, but hopefully trying resolve part of it by getting rid of many unnecessary fonts that are probably effecting my performance in Illustrator CC.

The performance of Illustrator CC (whatever version 2015 / 2017 / 2018) is extremely slow. I was talking with Adobe Support via email and they recognized this problem with all Mac Display 5K. it's unbelievable that this kind of thing happens in an application like Illustrator in computers of last generation of Apple. Apple and Adobe were always companies that thought of professional designers. The conclusion of Adobe Support was that they do not know how to solve this problem with 5K iMac displays. The only possible solution is to use Illustrator CS6, a version that is already 7 years old! I hope Adobe does something about it, what a disappointment!

I also am having huge performance problems. I'm using a late 2013 Macbook Pro 15" with 16GB ram. I have 2 external 4k displays connected and a Wacom Intuos tablet. The artwork I'm working on now is only 2.7Mb on the hard disk. There are no embedded images, but I have applied some Illustrator effects.
It is SO PAINFUL to use. For example, when I nudge an element, it takes a couple seconds of mouse spinning before I can do anything further.
Can you please fix??!!

Hello Adobe,
As my artworks are more that 1 or 1.5 GB it starts getting slower and this is without any psd effects.
Please find a specific solution for which we can make AI more user friendly and avoid file crash. This problem I am facing is in IMAC.
Thank you,
Awaiting your reply.

Recently started my own business and purchased a new 27 in imac 5k retina, 4.2ghz with the hopes of gaining some efficiency. Still have my 2011 Imac that is still very servicable and so far the purchase of my new imac with Adobe CC has been the most disappointing experience I've had with both Adobe and Apple in my 25+ years of loyalty to both brands and their products. I welcome any advice on how to remedy the problem. I can add more RAM, though I've heard it doesn't help?
Apple and Adobe, put your heads together and fix this for the your long-standing, loyal and hard working customers please!

Same issue with my imac 27inch 5K retina 2017... Looks like you guys have a problem on your hands... I had to use INKSCAPE! To finish a project that had a deadline when I'm paying $49 a month to have software that is supposed to work.

We just purchased 18 new iMacs (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017), and the 2013s are faster—even with High Sierra. This needs to be fixed fast.

You are definitely not alone.
We are also experiencing similar speed issues with the new 2017 iMacs (24GB memory, 8gb dedicated ATI GPU, fastest i5 option available) . Having also CS6 we've opened the same jobs on that software and found it to respond much faster than CC.
So between the hardware and especially the software there is some kind of issue of optimisation.
