Copy and paste doesn't always work
I've been experiencing problems with Illustrator. When I copy an object with the ctrl + c button and try to paste them it randomly doesn't work.
The problem is that I can't replicate it on command. At first I thought it had something to do with the laptop that I used, but it also happens on a freshly installed desktop.
My version of Illustrator is 22.0.1
I also checked the copy paste functions under the edit tab, and when I copied something it didn't show the ability to paste it. It could also only have something to do with copying files.

This is a MAJOR workflow issue that needs to be addressed and fixed STAT. I too hope with each update that the problem wil be gone, but still no. I just ran the latest update yesterday. I have made suer that Clip manager is off, that GPU setting is off, and it doesnt matter.
What I also dont get it why it works intermittenly. Like if I wait long enough, it might actually work. This is NOT OK.

I find when this happens, using menu rather than shortcut works (but not always). Not productive

Environment:
Adobe Illustrator 30.1 (64-bit)
Windows 10 Pro for Workstations 22H2 (19045.6456)
NVIDIA Quadro P4000
Reproduced on two separate Dell Precision 7820 workstations with identical behaviorIssue:
Since an Illustrator update around late 2025, Copy to Clipboard intermittently fails for graphic objects.
Symptoms:
Text objects copy and paste correctly 100% of the time.
Graphic objects (even a simple line, rectangle, or ellipse with no effects, transparency, masks, or appearance attributes) fail to copy approximately 50% of the time.
When the failure occurs, Edit > Paste becomes unavailable in Illustrator.
Other applications (Photoshop, InDesign, Word, Acrobat, etc.) do not receive any new clipboard content.
Repeatedly pressing Copy (sometimes 10–30 times) eventually succeeds, after which Paste becomes available again.Additional observations:
The issue occurs in both existing and newly created documents.
The issue is independent of object complexity.
The issue is reproducible on two separate Windows workstations.
The issue does not occur on macOS with the same files and workflow.
GPU Performance ON/OFF does not change the behavior.
Windows Clipboard History ON/OFF does not change the behavior.
The problem occurs whether Copy is triggered via Ctrl+C or Edit > Copy.Expected result:
Selected graphic objects should always be copied to the system clipboard.Actual result:
Graphic objects are intermittently not transferred to the clipboard, while text objects continue to work normally. -

Illustrator 30.5.1 (Desktop)
Windows (fully updated)After some time working in Illustrator and doing multiple copy/paste operations, copy/paste for vector shapes stops working reliably. Copy/paste for text keeps working, both inside Illustrator and to other apps (e.g. Notepad).
Steps to Reproduce (typical pattern)
— Launch Illustrator and create a new blank document.
— Draw a simple shape (rectangle or oval).
— Use Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V many times to duplicate shapes (often works fine for tens/hundreds of copies).
— Continue working for a while: copy/paste different shapes, add/edit text, copy/paste text and shapes.
— After some time, try to copy a shape again in the same document. At some point, shapes no longer paste (Ctrl+V does nothing or Paste is disabled).
Text still copies and pastes correctly, including into Notepad.Restarting Illustrator temporarily fixes the issue; after further copy/paste usage it comes back.
It can happen even in new, simple documents (not only heavy files).
Copy/paste should work consistently for shapes and text during the whole session, regardless of how many copy/paste operations were done.
What I already tried
— Updated Illustrator to latest version (30.5.1).
— Reset preferences.
— Disabled startup scripts.
— Checked clipboard-related preferences.
— Tested in new, simple documents. Please investigate copy/paste behavior for vector shapes in long working sessions on Windows.

Same here. First time this happens for me in AI, I had version 30.2 or something. Now running the latest version 30.4 because I thought it would be fixed. It isn't. I can copy and paste text but not graphic objects.
Have seen this issue mentioned in forums as long as 4!!! years back. That's crazy! I pay for this software. (Shaking my head in disbelief).
Anyway, here's my voice added to this thread.

The copy, paste, and paste in place functions stop working after a few uses. This has been happening for a few days. I installed Illustrator on another PC and the same thing happens; I also installed an older version, but it still happens.

I fixed this by closing a third-party app that was managing my monitor settings. To find the culprit, I went through the Task Manager and closed programs one by one until the paste function started working again.

Has anyone found a solve for this?
For me, it's only just started happening since the latest update on PC (30.4). I'm not having the same issue on Mac.
Also, it's not just the cmd + c/v keyboard shortcut. Even if I right click to copy/paste, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Infuriating!
For now, I'm going to roll back to Version 30.3 and hope for the best!

HAVING THE SAME ISSUE FOR 1 YEAR AT LEAST.... PLEASE ADOBE DO SOMETHING, IT'S NOT AN OPTIONAL TOOL, WE USE IT EVERYDAY LOTS OF TIME! It's unacceptable from a software not really that cheap

I asked the AI to help me copy paste and it said "I cannot help with prompts that violate the Adobe Terms of Service". Weird bug

Copy & paste tends to intermittently work with objects. Rarely does it work trying to copy text with in a text box.
I figured a new update would hopefully fix things. NOPE.
ADOBE PLEASE FIX THIS!!! YOUR SOFTWARE IS THE ONLY SOFTWARE THAT COPY & PASTE DOES NOT WORK IN. YOURS. JUST YOURS. ONLY YOURS.

Paste hotkey isn't working. It's only in Illustrator and it works intermittently.

@talent wesolek I suspect that's it. Probably until a mass amount of people start jumping ship I am not sure they will take things seriously.

After another 6 months with AI I can confirm, I've never seen and probably won't see in the future such a bugged software. Bugs are popping in diff basic functionalities all the time. They fix some of them from time to time, then other ones pops up in different places. This copy-paste bug seems to be fixed in the latest versions (at least if you restart your PC every day LOL), but then we got very slow saves in some files, random crashes of files with objects from your own CC libraries, PDF export profiles shift randomly every second export, paste in place pastes in some random artboards instead of the selected one, as so on. Instead of fixing this, they are just pushing some useless artifical intelligence extensions. It is so strange this software is still on the market, it seems to be some phenomenon - probably there is no real competition on the market???

Still having this issue even in the 2026 version of Adobe Illustrator...I've now tried copying an item 96 times (not being facetious...I counted..) and still, it won't copy. This needs to be fixed, this is such a basic utility!

Welp there it goes again. I have two things selected and it wont copy paste. If its one thing it does it fine.

Its completely random seemingly as well. As I cam to report this bug I tried it once more and BAM. Now its copy pasting. Its happening almost every session now (daily).
