Copy and paste doesn't always work
Hi,
I've been experiencing problems with Illustrator. When I copy an object with the ctrl + c button and try to paste them it randomly doesn't work.
The problem is that I can't replicate it on command. At first I thought it had something to do with the laptop that I used, but it also happens on a freshly installed desktop.
My version of Illustrator is 22.0.1
I also checked the copy paste functions under the edit tab, and when I copied something it didn't show the ability to paste it. It could also only have something to do with copying files.
Please get in touch with us at any of the other support channels – https://helpx.adobe.com/support.html . Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we will need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.
Warm Regards,

I have the same problem. Please do something Adobe. ITS ANNOYING AND I COMPROMISE MY WORKFLOW.
This often happen with text box (I have to outline everything and then the program allows me to copy and paste).
I have already tried several times with erase the clipboard and also with restore the preferences (Edition --> General). Those two methods sometimes work, but lately this bug got RANDOM and right now is happening again and nothing is working, I DONT WANT TO RESTART THE PROGRAM.
Again, ANNOYING AND IM PAYING FOR THIS!

I have Illustrator 27.4.1 on a DELL Precision 7560 and this is the first time I encounter this problem.
It has been since recently that the objects that are copied or cut are not being pasted after using CTRL+P, CTRL+F or CTRL+B. As other people have mentioned, it is indeed randomly that the problem occurs and it is very frustrating in certain situations where you have to copy paste things repeatedly.
Please look this up and fix it because the community needs these simple functions in order to work efficiently and quick.

For what this comment is worth, I had an issue with copying a formatted texts and not retaining it when I copy and then paste it. What I realized was that you need to tick off the "Paste text without formatting"" option under When Pasting in the Clipboard Handling in Illustrator's Preference. This is for Mac OSX version, 26.5.2.

it is a generic issue. we have 4 pcs in our studio and all of them have this problem.
we previously were on windows 10 / Mac OS (some older version) and most current adobe suit. and now we switched to windows 11 / mac os ( most recent version) with fresh installed illustrator. and we all experience copy paste problems on windows and on mac. it is totall annoying. -

I also experienced unexpected and inconsistent results when attempting to copy and paste. I have a project where I'm trying to select everything on the artboard (for all layers) and copy and paste to a new art board.
I noticed if any of the layers in the original artboard are locked, they failed to paste into the new artboard. In that case, I resolved the issue by unlocking the layers. But I would expect copy and paste to copy and paste locked layers too.
The other issue I had that I couldn't figure out is that I pasted the art onto a new board so I could tile the art (duplicate it for printing multiple copies on a single standard letter paper). But if I resize the pasted result and then clone that result on the same artboard, the result again is missing random layers.

I can't believe this is still a problem that hasn't been fixed.
I go to copy an object, shape, etc. and it doesn't put anything in the clipboard. Paste doesn't work and is greyed out in the drop down menu. This is a very basic function and heavily used in my work. None of the solutions I have come across in forums have worked. I have a brand new laptop with Windows 10 and up-to-date adobe subscription. Keystrokes and edit menu both do not work to copy/paste, restarting, using fewer processors, no other programs running... nothing works. This is extremely frustrating. -

Still a problem. Have the subscription, brand new laptop with windows 10. I'm about to make design my full time job, I really need this to work. I have tried resetting preferences, reducing the number of cores used to process, svg/pdf toggled on and off in preferences, restarting... pretty much everything i've been able to read. Nothing works.

Yeah, it also happens with me, specially when using the Graph Tool. It doesn't matter which OS, hardware set up or Illustrator version. It is an very old issue.
You try to copy/paste text (a word, tab separated or a list) from/to Excel, word or TextEdit and it stops working on Illustrator (and only with Illustrator). It maybe loses the tabs or maybe you can't paste it.
You need to use the menu (counter productive) and even the menu stops working eventually.
I've recorded a short video showing it.

I also find that CMD + C often doesn't work and when I go to paste, it pastes an old object.
The solution I've found which I learnt from colleagues who experience the same issue in Illustrator and After Effects is to mash CMD + C multiple times before pasting.

Im experiencing a similar issue.
1. Copy and pasting text but it always pastes the text as default without copying character styles/format. The 'paste text without formatting' is unchecked in Preferences.
2. When copying text+vector shape, it only pastes the text without the formatting again.
3. When copy grouped shapes, it pastes as ungrouped. Please fix this bug.

Hot key functions nor the dropdown menu COPY/PASTE (Back Front or simply paste) works intermittently. I have contacted support and the resolution is to reset my settings which is annoying and only proves to work for a day if that long before it stops again. I now have to use the mouse and copy 3-7 times before the paste options are ungreyed and I can chose an option. Very frustrating to say the least. Never was an issue before the subscription version of the program.

This is very odd. I had this problem 4 years ago when I was running Illustrator 2016 on an older mac of that time, I am now having the very same problem on my very nice iMac Pro (Mojave OS) with the latest CC 2021 Illustrator: Copy and Pasting objects into a new or the same document randomly doesn't work and just gives me the flattened text from that complex object. (flattened in this case meaning, no longer on a curve)
I'm not using any auxiliary program such as Team Viewer. I was shocked when this happened as I assumed it was a thing of the past. I reset preferences, tried both keyboard, and menu copy and paste, checked "remember paste layers", all of it!
the only thing that worked was dragging instead of copy and paste (luckily you can drag from one open file into another, I never knew this or had forgotten)

Oh yes, been having this problem today, except I've also tried copying from another document to no avail, and so far this is the only page I have found on this particular issue, quite annoying.
Having a quick fix would be awesome since the project I'm working on this very moment requires me to fetch a bunch of assets from another documents, and having this glitch is seriously hampering my progress.
Also, possibly unrelated, before I opened up illustrator this morning to work I was greeted by a .NET framework warning about a clipboard issue, of which I got to go away by downloading a fix from MS, but so far illustrator been acting the same.
If anyone know something please speak up.
