Can't drag layers in layers palette
I suddenly cannot drag layers in the layers palette. I just need to place a layer on top of another, which I've been doing for over a decade. Please fix this now.

Saman, can you please share a short recording of it, to illustrate the behavior?
Do you mean on canvas (which is a completely different problem then and should be reported separately), or in the Layers panel?
Also — please check if you have Object Selection by Path Only disabled in Preferences > Selection & Anchor Display. -

Objects now cannot be moved by selecting the object and dragging to the new position unless they show a box at the center.

Yeah I'm still having this issue. The problem with Releasing Layers (Sequence) is that I lose all of my names for every layer (and there are a LOT). Do I have to now rename all of them and do this every time i want to add a new layer?

When I highlight a layer it allows me to click on it, but it doesn’t allow me to drag. The change layers scroller under the image doesn’t work either. Please fix

Hi everybody. I also had the same issue. I now know that I was doing wrong. First you have to clik the options menu in the layers palette (three horizontal lines, top right corner) and choose the option: "Release to layers(sequence). . But before doing this make sure you haven't yet clik the main layer. There must be only one layer not yet unfolded. If it's unfolded,,you'll ee that every layer has the same color.
If so, click to fold the layer, go clik the options menu in the layers palette and next choose the option: "Release to layers(sequence). Youill see that the layers have now different colors.
Now you can drag them. Hope that it was clear.

Hello. this question's a bit old but if any of you are still struggling with this, you can click the options menu in the layers palette (three horizontal lines, top right corner) and choose the option: "Release to layers(sequence). After that, you can drag the layers on the palette again. Hope that helps!

I'm having the same issue just started a couple hours ago. Works fine in Photoshop but not AI vs 24.0.1 Win 10. I can't move objects either I just discovered.

I had this same issue with Photoshop and Illustrator open, Closed photoshop and I could drag layers.

I have the same issue. I cannot drag layers in layers palette to reorder or create/delete.
Windows 10 os:
I have reinstalled & deleted preferences
Installed V22.1 to replace V23.0.3 and the error persistsI can get round this by activating the layer and using using ctrl + ] to move it up & down but but dragging is easier

I am having the same issue and it needs to be fixed now... I cannot drag items from one layer into another
