Cannot select objects with selection tool
If I have a layer set to preview mode and it is above another layer that is not in preview mode, I cannot select objects in the preview mode layer when the objects are above an object in the lower layer. I have tried zooming in as close as I can and the selection tool will still not select an item in the preview mode layer. I can get around this by hiding the non-preview mode layer or selecting the object in the layers panel.

Indeed! Now, when I try it your way, I can’t remember how I tried it in my attempt. Perhaps not exactly with a click? Feels painful. Voted.

Looking at it again I didn't show how I could select the object just fine with nothing below it. So here is another video capture

Yes! This is still an extremely frustrating issue. I will try attaching a video of my trying to select an object in a preview mode layer set over another layer. Also a screenshot of the setup for that file.

Wes, is this still an issue for you in the latest version of Illustrator? I can’t reproduce it.
Can you please demonstrate it a short video or a GIF, or at least show the layer structure and the objects on canvas you try to click to select?
