This can happen if the 'Paste text without formatting' option is toggled in Preferences > Clipboard Handling. This would cause Ai to paste text with no formatting, adapting it from the target text.

I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 25.4.1 which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.

This feature is now added into the most recent version 28.3.
Please try it when it gets available and comment back if it works for you as expected.

An error occurred while saving the comment Looking at it again I didn't show how I could select the object just fine with nothing below it. So here is another video capture
An error occurred while saving the comment Yes! This is still an extremely frustrating issue. I will try attaching a video of my trying to select an object in a preview mode layer set over another layer. Also a screenshot of the setup for that file.

An error occurred while saving the comment Very disappointing that Adobe agreed that this is a problem four years ago and yet has not addressed the problem. I guess that goes along with not fixing any problems with the charting tool for decades.

We are unable to reproduce this issue in house. We need your help in getting this issue reproducible.
Kindly provide some video and Test file(Via File→Package) with some steps with which you are facing issue and share with us in a zip file at sharewithai@adobe.com. Please mention the title of this issue as the subject of the mail.
Please Also let us know if you have been using any 3rd Party plugin while facing this problem.Since this is not a generic issue that we can reproduce at our end, we might need someone to look into your machine to figure out what is going on here.
If yes, then please do let me know about your available time so that I can schedule a connect session accordingly.
Our time zone is IST (+5:30 GMT).We are available…An error occurred while saving the comment I have been getting this error recently. Illustrator will not let me save the file I'm working on as an Illustrator file. But I can save the AI file as a PDF, close it, open the PDF and then save as an AI file again.

An error occurred while saving the comment It seems to be less of a problem lately. It must have been addressed in one of the updates since I posted this. It's hard to keep track of one bug amongst the dozens and dozens that drive me crazy daily.

An error occurred while saving the comment @Alexandre Soubrier Agreed. Selecting points is easier now but selecting bezier handles is still a study in frustration.
An error occurred while saving the comment I strongly support your suggestion. I think I waste the most time in Illustrator just trying to grab bezier points. Adding tolerance and/or cursor change would go a long way towards mitigating the wasted time.

We have the fix available in the latest release. Please update Illustrator using Adobe Creative Cloud application to the latest build for version Illustrator CC 22.1.

An error occurred while saving the comment Yes, this still seems to be an issue for folders that are backed up to a web service (Google File Stream here.) I don't see it for files that are saved elsewhere.

We have fixed this bug in our latest release – v 24.2.1 which is available worldwide now. Thanks for your patience on this.
Please note that after upgrading you might still see that Align To sets itself to Align to Key Object. If you see this, please manually set the Align To to the required setting, and this reported bug will not happen again. You’ll need to this one time only.
The reason Align To might get set to Key Object after update is because Ai remembers your last Align To on subsequent launches as well. So, if your last Align To was Key Object before quitting/upgrading, after first multi-selection, it will set itself to Key Object. After you manually change it one-time, it will work fine.

When I select multiple objects -- often by selecting the layer -- the alignment option will not let me choose anything other than "Align to artboard." I have to go back and select all the objects individually to then be allowed to "Align to selection" or "Align to key object."

We have done further updates to Dimension tool with recently released version - 28.3
You can create and use your custom scale for dimension, hide or show units on dimensions and dimensions are now sticky to the object - they transform as well when you transform the object.
Ah! That might be my own fault. Somehow "Paste text without formatting" got checked. Chalk it up to user error.
