Opacity mask not working with freeform gradients
I am trying to make an opacity map with a freeform gradient. It previews correctly but as soon as i try to leave the dialog box it goes completely white. Doing exacly the same thing with the same objects but with a regular gradient instead works just fine.

Having a similar issue. You can see in this video I masked a freeform gradient object with a bunch of nodes and most of them go missing once masked.

My workaround does not seem to work anymore.
But I found another one:
Select the freeform gradient and choose Object > Group.
Apply the opacity mask to the group. -

Dell xps 13, i7, 16gb, Windows 10.
Illustrator 25.2Attempting to use a Free-form Gradient (FG) as a Fill and a simple shape as a mask, using the Opacity Mask tool. As soon as I click away from the Opacity sub-menu, the FG disappears. Even the swatch icon has no black outline.
It is easily solved by expanding / flattening transparency, but I need a non-destructive method. The file uses global colours, as i need to change a lot of icons at once at a moments notice, but that feature gets lost once the shape is expanded / flattened. I've tried a simple clipping mask with the same results.
Below are examples of expected results using an expanded shape vs live free-form gradient tool

Just had the same experience.
Make mask and Uncheck "Clip" works as expected
Make Mask and first click "Invert Mask" makes the gradient disappear, and no combination of Clip and Invert Mask will get it back.
