Pixel preview incredibly slow

Working in pixel preview mode is painfully slow – even on small, simple files.

It makes no difference whether GPU mode is on or off.

    Almost unusably slow on 4.2GH i7 iMac.

    i'm getting this too on illustrator 23.0.3 and imac 5k 4gh i7 24gb of ram.

    i can't use pixel preview at all.
