Bounding Box is larger than selected objects’ bounds, as if something else is selected
Adobe, have you seen this page. https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1148039
The bounding box problem has persisted over versions, years. Extremely strange that it continues to pester even to this day. Will you ever do anything about it?

If this is something that is still happening for you, please share a test file you can reproduce this problem with, along with the video showing this happening for you, so that the team can try to reproduce it and investigate.

Having this issue often, did not happen in the past to me, seems like an issue I've had for the past 1-2 months. Very annoying and an incredible waste of time trying to get around this. Please resolve asap.

I was messing with a clip group. Somehow now I can't unselect and seems to be having the issue other people are having. It had created a second layer then now after I merged it all and ungrouped the image, it still isn't working. It looks as though the layer isn't selected and only the image looks full color. HELP
-Tried edges: didn't work
-Tried select all: didn't work
-Tried deleting picture: didn't work -

Hello,
This is what worked for me: go to View --> show edges (command H on Mac)
Hope it will work for you as well.

its something related to the clipping mask, when erase the clips, the glitched selection edges disappear

This issue has been constant and has never been fixed on Illustrator for at least 10 years now. I can say for a fact I have been experiencing this ghost selection problem throughout most of my career. Is it really that hard to fix?

Like I said on title. When I use selection tool, it happens occasionally. It can not be deselect even when I lock and turn off visibility all my layers. The only way to solve this problem is turn off the current window, and reopen the file. It is really annoying. Please fix it. Thank you.

Can confirm this is still an issue

I figured it out... Ungroup everything, if anything is grouped in the selection it will continue to be selected. If you completely ungroup all layers it will lock them properly when you attempt to select them. I hope this helps!

Today a bug is still going strong. Although a Select All and pick an empty space happened to work for me. So there is a super easy cmd +a random click debug. But it took me a while and this google search to find this fix to a problem that shouldn't be there in a first place. Please do something about it :)

Also having this issue or something like it. Basically it will only unselect if I hit certain parts of the screen, (even clicking off artboard where there are no objects does not work) and then the selection behavior afterward is unpredictable. Attaching screenshots to illustrate. Red X is where I clicked. Selection edges are shown.
I don't know how I'm going to make my deadline like this.
