Freeform gradient fill disappears on select all action
- OS: Windows Version: 10.0 System Architecture: x64 Illustrator v 23.0.6 (64-bit)
- I used a freeform gradient fill to fill a path and upon doing a select all to group a few different paths and shapes for easier movement or duplication, the fill of the path disappears and I need to either rebuilt the gradient or re-load the file as even doing CTRL+Z doesn't bring back the gradient
- The expected result is that the gradient remains as it was when doing a select all (Either through CTRL+A or using the Selection Tool)
- The Fill for the path disappears and the freeform gradients of all other shapes and paths are messed up.

Select All does nothing wrong for me when I try to reproduce it, but Peter provided another way of making this break for me: hide one object with a freeform gradient fill applied, than target/select the parent layer in Layers panel by clicking the dot or a square slot next to it. Upon unhiding the object back, its fill will become white in the chip in any fill selector, and vanish on canvas.

This is a very frustrating bug, rendering 'freeform gradients *practically* unusable'.
Our workaround order.
-Use Meshes [slows down our workflow considerably]
-Lock the layers in question anytime you need to work with associative objects (with groups / nested layers)
-Have paths with Freeform gradients at the root of the artboard, and at most, nested within one layer only! The more you nest, the more the problem is exacerbated, i.e., selecting 'All', 'Group' Icon etc., within any form of 'nest' guarantees the fills will vanish. We can replicate this issue easily in multiple files on multiple PC's.

I have the same issue! Except on version 24.0.3 and on MacOS Catalina version 10.15.2.
Creating a nice drop shadow effect with "lines" free form gradient. As soon as I select all or just double click on another group or I guess any click actually, it resets my gradient completely. This is so frustrating since I won't be able to get the same customized shadow result with another method.
