Gaussian Blur Effect producing different results from 24.1.3 to 24.2 or 24.2.1
The Gaussian Blur Effect "Effect→Blur→Gaussian Blur" is now behaving differently in 24.2 than it was in 21.x. Updating to 24.2.1 did not solve the issue.
The issue: A designer applies a Gaussian Blur to a vector shape and sets the desired blur level to achieve the desired effect. When that file is opened by another user using 24.2 or 24.2.1, copying and pasting the object, or toggling the visibility of the Gaussian Blur effect (in the attributes panel) on the original object will change the visual appearance of the blur (the blur noticeably increases in strength).
This alters the intended design by the designer. If the file is then saved by the 24.2 user and re-opened in 24.1.x or 24.0 (tested), the blur effect will revert to the originally intended visual appearance when the gaussian blur effect visibility is toggled in 24.1 or 24.0. The actual blur value in the gaussian blur settings is unchanged.
For example with an arbitrary number, a gaussian blur effect of value 100 applied to a vector shape in 24.2 produces are larger / stronger blur effect than it does in 24.1 or 24.0.
Also, in 24.2.1, a vector shape with a gaussian blur effect applied to it will appear differently on a white art board background than it will with a white filled vector shape behind it. When a white shape is placed behind the blurred object, the blur appears larger than it does on the white artboard.

After meticulous testing, we discovered that this is a difference in how blurs are handled on spot vs process colours.

CRITICAL!!! Just updated to 29.1 and this issue has made a return for the first time since 24.2.3.
Our Company QC checks for this issue after every Illustrator update. We kindly request that Adobe please check for this issue before rolling out updates.

Jim, I bet you refer to this report you made: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/46166314
A similar report was addressed: http://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447/suggestions/47566373 —can you check if it is truly fixed? -

Does anyone know what percent roughly those bugged blurs were off? We have a bunch of files approved last year we are revising, and we're having to go back and try to match the pre-patch blurs. So that's super fun.

Hello. This issue is still happening, could you please help me? Below I attached the original effect from older version, while after I copy-paste it to new file in V25.2.3, the Gaussian Blur Effect multiplies 10 times bigger. I think the old file version was about V24.2 (Illustrator 2020) but unfortunately I don't know what exactly.

Thanks for checking Rob, I tested the issue on CC2020 (24.3) and had the error. It's not great having a feature you can't rely on if it changes appearance within different versions.

Sam, I test for this issue with the gaussian blur (fearing that it may return) whenever there are updates to Illustrator. After 24.3 fixed it, I did avoid updating for a while out of fear, so I think I missed some versions (pre 25.2). Following up to my last comment when 24.2.2 fixed it:
- 24.2.3 reintroduced the gaussian blur issue.
- 24.3 fixed it again.
- 25.2 still good
- 25.2.1 still good
- 25.2.2 still good
- 25.2.3 still good (current version as of May 11th, 2021) -

Can this bug be fixed, it is a big problem when sending files to printers, I have just experienced this myself.
We have an Illustrator file created in CC 2019 (23.0.6), it contains a PSD element that has a gaussian blur effect applied to it in Illustrator, set to a radius of 9 pixels, this produced a subtle blurred appearance. The file was then sent to a printer for test printing where they are using Illustrator CC 2021 (version unknown) and when they open the file the object becomes very blurred, completely changing its appearance.
I've managed to replicate the bug using Illustrator CC 2020, the object's radius blur effect changes to 9.021 pixels and the appearance becomes very blurred, see images attached. FYI the raster effects matched in both versions of Illustrator, nothing was changed at all when opening the file.
Unfortunately the printer didn't check the PDF we supplied to see if it matches the appearance and our client was not happy when he received the proof.

Thank you, Adobe / Illustrator team! Today's update (July 29th, 2020 - 24.2.2) has fixed this issue.
If you have a file with a gaussian blur made in 24.0, the visual effect of the blur does not change in 24.2.2 when you toggle the gaussian blur effect visibility.
If you have a file made in 24.0 and had toggled the gaussian blur effect in 24.2.1, causing it to increase in size / change visual appearance, and you now toggle that gaussian blur effect in 24.2.2, it returns to "normal" matching the original file made in 24.0.
Thank you very much! This was critical for our company's work with files supplied by the customer who was using 24.0 while we were on newer versions.

Interesting... Are Document Raster Settings actually the same? I know it’s about different thing, but I have to ask, just in case. Can you provide screenshots?
