Importing CAD DXF files: Unknown Format and Cannot Be Opened
I am using Illustrator 2020 on a Windows 10 computer.
We import CAD files in DXF format to create AI files for our graphics department to use. We are successful when importing ACAD2000 DXF files, but have problems with more recent versions. Elements drop off when importing ACAD2004, 2007, 2010 DXF files. When trying to import ACAD2013 and 2018 CAD files I get the message "Unknown Format and Cannot Be Opened".
I am happy to share that we have fixed this bug in our latest release – 26.x which is available worldwide now.
Going forward, our goal is to fix as many top User-Voice bugs as possible and as frequently as possible. Given the nature of the fixes, some of the bugs will take a longer time to fix, but we are on it.
You can update to the latest release using Creative Cloud desktop App: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/creative-cloud-updates.html
Thank you for all the feedback. Keep it coming!

I was not able to open DXF file with Illustrator but it did open on my laser cutting program. So I saved the file from the laser cutter as DXF and now Illustrator would open it.

ご使用の Mac が M1 チップマシンの場合は、制限で「DXF、DWG のファイル形式はサポートされていません」のでご注意ください。
その場合は、Rosetta エミュレーションモードを使用して Illustrator を起動してください。
There's a community out there that uses this functionality daily. We NEED to be able to open DXF/DWG files on our MBPs w/ M1 chip. Can't move to Rosetta emulation mode if it does not show up as an option. Hello to the customer experience where I wait patiently w/ no workaround and nothing comes. Speed it up!!
I teach architecture at a major university and practice as well. DWG to Illustrator to DWG workflow is a critical competent of how your software is used in the industry. Fix it.
I use this feature daily to get drawings in and out of CAD programs, please don't drop it!!
Fusion360 2.0.10813 (macOS) から出力した dxf ファイルでも同様に開けませんでした (Adobe illustrator 2021 25.4.1)
Why has Adobe decided to drop support for DXF export/import? I have an iMac Pro, NOT an M1 machine. I use Illustrator to create files that I then export into SketchUp Pro. I rely on this feature extensively in my workflow.
Now, with the latest version, 25.4.1, it is.... GONE!
I've been a Creative Cloud monthly subscriber for far too many years to comfortably think about (ALL THAT $$$) and to have features dropped, willy-nilly is annoying at best and at worst, makes me want to injure myself.
But, gee, thanks for FINALLY giving us unlimited art board sizing, something Freehand had 20+ years ago.
I used many times the exportation to .dxf for my work and this is a big trouble in time and I can't work well. Please help us with this issue.

Same for me - I have downgraded to Illustrator 25.0 - strangely through I also run Fusion 360 and Shapr3D on my Mac M1 and have no problem with Autocad so not sure why Illustrator can't read DWG or DXF.
I use Mac M1 Ship and also have that trouble.
I try to move to Rosetta Mode but its not work.
please look at my attached screenshot.
How can I fix it?

Hi , sorry but its not working - I´m using the M1 MacBook Air 2020 and I can't find option for Rosetta mode. please look at attached screen picture.
Here are the steps -
1. Right click on the Adobe Illustrator
2. Select get Info from the options
3. Select the checkbox for the Rosetta emulation mode
Do let us know if this works for you or not.
How can I move to rosetta emulation mode?
