Illustrator ignores the names of directory aliases in the Library button of the Graphic Styles palette.
Man this is a super fiddly bug and it is gonna slide right down the bottom of the priority pile given that most of your resources are currently tied up in "rewrite this whole codebase from scratch for iOS" but hey. It's a tiny little one and maybe it's an easy one to slip into someone's queue for when they need a break from that.
Anyway. So I'm on OSX, and I still prefer to manage my style/brush/symbol/etc libraries by using the computer's filesystem instead of trying to figure out the Libraries palette.
And I just discovered that if you drop an alias to a directory into ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator 24/en_us/Graphic Styles, Illustrator will display the actual name of the directory rather than the alias' name.
See attached screenshots for an example: an alias named "Rita" is shown in Illustrator as its original name of "models". Which is somewhat confusing when there is also an alias named "Parallax" to another directory named "models".
I would imagine this behavior probably exists in the library buttons of the Brushes, Swatches, and Symbols palettes. I haven't checked. I've probably already put more effort into documenting this bug than anyone should put into trying to fix it. If you're looking for something to spend like fifteen minutes on seeing if there's a dumb, obvious fix for, then this bug is for you. Then let it drop to the bottom of the queue if it's clearly gonna be actual work. :)
Oh and also: if you're one of the people who worked on the immense, thankless task of digging through AI to finally get preview rotation working? THANK YOU for doing that, I'm eagerly waiting for that one to land in the production build, I've been asking for that one since I started using AI for most of my art around 2005.
