Сonverting a type object from Area to Point replaces soft breaks with paragraph breaks

Illustrator's 'Convert To Point Type' should not change soft line breaks to paragraph breaks, as the GIF shows.

Issue with text object creating soft and hard returns thus text does not flow when width is adjusted. Please see pdf file attached

When I click the right-side handle to switch from Area-type tool to Point-type tool, illustrator adds forced line breaks to the end of each line. Annoying because when I go back to area-type tool to reflow the text, none of the text reflows.
