Embeded icon not showing in the links panel
Illustrator 26.0.1/ macOS Big SUR 11.6.1
The icon for embeded images (like in illustrator 2021) in the links panel it's not showing anything, it's blank.

Agree. Not sure why non-embedded images need an icon to signify their status as links, they're already listed in the links panel. The "embedded" icon was ideal for identifying images that are no longer links, but rather embedded in the document itself instead.
Now we're looking for the items that *do not* have an icon to find the embedded images.
At least at my workplace, the embedded images are more rare and thus easier to identify with an icon. Maybe it's different elsewhere?

Why change something that was working? Programmers, not users, making casual changes to justify their salaries. Again. How about fixing the myriad of things that aren't working instead of playing with things that are?

Why was the icon for embedded images removed from the links panel? The icon was very helpful to instantly recognize the link is embedded rather than a link. Why was this changed? It wasn't broken! I work in print production and this palette is extremely important.
Illustrator 2022 appears to have reversed the system now showing an icon for a link. Please add an icon next to the filename signifying it is embedded in addition to the link icon.

A linked image now has a link icon, 'a chain in a circle', unified across all Adobe apps (the bottom link in the list of Links).
An embedded image now has no icon (the upper link). Used to be quite opposite, a linked image had no icons, and embedded images had a 'picture' icon.

Kost: there should be an icon for 'linked' now -- effectively the reverse of the situation in previous versions.

Thank you for your response. So, how are we supposed to tell when an image is embedded vs linked? I use this feature quite a lot when preparing for print. I know that you can check one by one, but in a large file with lots of links it annoying and time consuming.

Kost, this is an intended change :(
Most of users who had the ability to rate it, were against it, exactly because it can be considered an error, as if embedded images are now linked, but were ignored.
I'm glad you raised it her. Maybe we'll be able to force a reconsideration if enough votes are made.
Unfortunately this change is made beyond Ai team, at CC level, so it should be large enough.
