placing (linking) JPGs in illustrator makes files incredibly slow to work with
Often I create layouts that require linking JPG in my doc. Whenever there are multiple JPGs in my doc, the doc becomes very slow. I do not notice the same performance issue if the linked files are TIFs. This has been an issue for multiple versions of Illustrator.

The team has recently made some changes to make working with large linked images faster.
Please try the new Beta version available from your CCD app and reply back — do you notice any difference? It is safe to install both the main release and Beta simultaneously. Notice though, that this last build in particular can have some issues while installation. If it fails to get launched after you first install it (it often happens if you already had a previous Beta version installed), uninstall it and reinstall again.

Would be awesome if Illustrator handled linked images the same as InDesign – no performance issues there.
