Bug: duplicate color names
MacOS 12.6.2
Illustrator 27.1.1
The issue: one can create multiple swatches with the same name.
Create a few non-global swatches or use existing ones. Go inside the swatches and edit the names to the same value for all swatches — no error is triggered.

Phil, disallowing to have duplicate names and protecting system swatches are two different things, as I see it. Do you have any reasoning for disallowing general duplicates for anything else, except for Black, White, and [Registration] (which is protected)? Please share.
Also — were these Black duplicates global? What routine do you have to deal with Black for the job — just curious. What changes did you make in the process to make this error impossible in the future form your side? -

I STRONGLY agree with this! I just had a job where trapping was incorrect. After a bit of searching, I realised that the 'designer' had created 3 "black" swatches with different colour values.
After changing the names the file behaved normally.
This should NOT be possible, especially with "black" or other standard names that should be protected.
