Merge Swatches not working
Selecting 3 identical Swatches, and choosing 'Merge Swatches' should result in 1 Swatch that is applied to all objects that were colored by the 3 identical swatches.
But in Ai, the 3 Swatches remain,

Jan, whatever I do, whichever method I try — I can’t get a duplicate of a global swatch without the 'copy' being added into its name. I have a faint memory of something like this, but not enough to recall it clearly :/
Can you please give the exact steps, or maybe record a short video or a GIF to demo it? Try LICEcap for making a GIF — it’s free and simple and works on Macs.As for the second part — well, yes, but as always, you should better log this as a separate request.

@Egor, maybe that is where the confusion comes from - an update,
I am working on some cartoon style illustrations, and when I need a variation of e.g. a skin tone, I apply a Global Color Swatch, and then drag a copy in the Swatches palette to change it. It keeps its name, and is some kind of new instance of the same Global Color Swatch - if I change it, all Swatches with the same name change along.
So, I can just remove two of the instances without loosing applied colors.
But Merge should work too, in my opinion, since the colors are the exact same.Merge Swatches can be much fancier anyway, think about:
-Merge All matching Swatches at once
-Merge Similar (with a tolarance setting) -
Jan, how were you able to get three identical swatches with identical names in Illustrator in the first place? Illustrator does not allow to use identical names, won’t create a duplicate using the same name, and will merge identical swatches when you paste an object using one form a different document.
So — how were you able to do it?
