Saving PDFs and PDF compatible AI files are now taking forever to complete. PLEASE FIX.

Haven't timed it, but have walked away come back and it is still saving.
The more linked files or embedded images, the longer it takes.
I have turned off "create pdf compatible file" that helped alot when saving an ai file. Not as fast as it used t be, but tolerable.
Saving the same file as a PDF takes a few minutes, but not as long as an ai file that is PDF compatible.

'Now' — since which version?
'Forever' — how long exactly? How many time does the same document take to save with the older version?
Does it matter if the document have linked files within?
Is there a difference when you save a very basic document, with a few shapes in it, compared to the files that takes forever to save?
Can you show the options you use when save the document?
What are your OS specs?
