Top Bar Menu Items Stop Responding
Platform: macOS Sonoma 14.2.1 Illustrator: 28.1
While operating and working on a drawing portions of the Title Bar Menu no longer respond to clicks (File, Edit, Object, Type, Select, Effect, View Window) however the Illustrator and Help still respond.
It was necessary to use keyboard shortcuts to save work and was necessary to quit and reload Illustrator and then load the file I was working on and the menu items now respond.
Has happened numerous times while working on recent drawings.
It seems like this problem happens only for Mac Sonoma users...
Downgrading to a previous version of MacOS seems to be a viable workaround at the moment.
This is not a proposed solution though.
If this happens for you at earlier versions — please comment.

Just wanted to update on the downgrade on a Mac Studio M1 and Macbook Air.. AMAZING difference in everything. Illustrator no longer errors/freezes etc. All works fin and holy cow, I did not realize how sluggish Sonoma was after going back to Ventura. It's like I have a new error free machine again. I'll stick with Ventura for now. For any others with issues, This is my fix.

Working on MacBook Pro, 2023, Apple M2 Max, Sonoma 14.2.1. Illustrator v 28.1.
Top menu in Illustrator (File, edit, object, type, select, etc.) stops working randomly. None of the menus can be selected/dropped down seemingly at random times, requiring a restart of Illustrator every time. Occurs every 5-10 minutes while working in Illustrator.

Will finally got Sonoma removed and Ventura finished installing today. I'll see how things go and report after a couple days of use. On MacBook Air M1, cannot get it to crash/freeze after downgrading to Ventura. That's a start.

Having the same issue with illustrator freezing the top menu bar. Also had a selected group which I didn't select and wouldn't be able to deselect or save work. Had to force quit using the Activity Monitor. Using the first release of M1 Apple Mac books. Constantly battling with issues while using Adobe.

The MacOS Menu Bar on Illustrator version 28.1 stops functioning after using the Pathfinder option (specifically the Trim button).
Can't access the tools & functions in the Menu Bar for any open documents until quitting the program entirely, and reopening the program.
Currently using:
• 14 Inch, M1 Macbook Pro, 16 GB
• Sonoma 14.2.1Have not used Windows to see if the issue repeats on that OS as well.

Using a fairly old Mac and running Sonoma. Using Adobe Illustrator 2024 (28.1).

Megan, what about latest public release? Does it behave the same way? or is it happening only in Beta?
And you are on Catalina still, correct? -

The top menu bar in Illustrator keeps failing to work. When you mouse over to use the menu bar it sometimes is completely non-functional (can't click on an option, can't select, etc.). This keeps happening and I keep having to restart Illustrator. Not exactly convenient. Please fix!

Well, illustrator 28 is pretty much useless. Every time I select no fill color, it locks the top menu. 3 fresh installs on 2 different Macs. ( M1's )
-
Does not happen on Windows 10 :/ Trying the same exact steps, all the top menu commands stay accessible.
James, can you replicate it using the steps Dockskipper provided? -

By the way, I can duplicate the crash every time I do the same sequence or close to it in the video. It seems to happen as soon as I select a "no fill" for shapes after subtracting a rough stroke from it.

Im sorry, I just saw this post AFTER I posted as well. Same issue. Here is a video of it. https://imgur.com/a/hl3dbDj
My post:
Mac M1, ( Mac Studio and MacBook Air ) Ventura 14.2.1 Adobe Illustrator 28.1.
As you can see in the video, The main top menu crashes and is not accesable every time I select a no fill. This happens on Both of my machines. I did a fresh install on BOTH of my machines. Installed older version of illustrator 27.9.1. All works fine. Update to 28, CRASH. Clean OS install again, install Watch video to understand. Illustrator 28, CRASH. No plugins, no user data, no fonts, no other software other than what comes with MacOS. Happens on both machines. Talked with Support. They were zero help. It's a BUG with no fix if it happens on a new install of both OS and Adobe on two different machines. They said they tried to duplicate the problem but failed to. If I revert back to v27.9 it works fine. ( would not let me upload the video here, this is the best I can do, hope it works ) https://imgur.com/a/hl3dbDjI'll see if I can delete my post.
