Recolor doesn’t allow to change white or black with a first try
I use the Recolor (color mixer / wheel) daily. I have come across an annoying bug.
Some base colors will be automatically 'locked' in the color mixer, indicated by a '-'. For example, let's say I'm trying to turn white into red.
- First, white needs to be unlocked. By clicking the '-', it will become an arrow '->', and the swatch should be toggle-able now.
- The first time you toggle the white, it selects, sliders can be moved to make it red, but it doesn't stay adjusted; it reverts back to whites.
- You need to click another random swatch, then go back to the white swatch which now accepts being toggled to red.

Seems like a bug to me as well.
By default Recolor dialog protects pure white and black from being altered.
The 'intended' way of unlocking these is to click the Color Reduction Option button (between Preset and Colors dropdowns), and uncheck White and/or Black... Ai likes these options checked and occasionally resets them, it seems...So what happens when you try 'add a new color in harmony', the way you described...
If these options ARE already unlocked, you just get arrows (→) form the get go.
But if these are locked within this small dialog — then yes, it’s just dashes (—)...
And clicking these dashes (or just empty spots) sometimes does not toggles these options!
And it’s quite easy to get the state, when the new chip is added, the color is altered, but the option stays locked, and the artwork behind the dialog doesn’t change... and sometimes it does change, but the options is STILL locked... quite a mess, I agree. -

I just noticed that same bug. I have a simple icon designed with white stroke and some white fills. When I bring it into the Recolor Artwork (color wheel) window, none of my color changes show in a preview or after okaying the window.
