Cmd+Opt+Shift+M Erases Text
OBSERVATION
The keyboard shortcut Cmd+Opt+Shift+M will open the Character Window and highlight the current font, however this exceptionally incredible time saving shortcut works only if the text is selected and not highlighted.
While the text is highlighted, performing the Cmd+Opt+Shift+M shortcut, simply erases the highlighted text.
EXPECTED RESULTS
The mechanics of this shortcut, many versions ago, performed the expected function, whether the text was highlighted or selected.

I see what’s happening exactly.
There is the Type > Insert WhiteSpace Character > Em Space command, and it uses Cmd+Shift+M.
And if you enable Show Hidden Characters, you’ll see that it’s what is inserted when you press Cmd+OPT+Shift+M (visible as a long dash symbol).
For some reason OPT is ignored when we are in the text editing mode, and Em Space get typed in.Luckily, there’s a simple workaround you can use now — use Cmd+Shift+F instead. It’s the same command, but a primary hotkey. You can check it in Keyboards Shortcuts > Menu Commands > Other Text.
However, it IS a bug, and thanks for reporting it!
