Pen tool can't close paths in draw behind mode in certain scenarios
I'm drawing with the pen tool in draw behind mode. However, every time I start a path on where an anchor is of another path above it is located, I won't be able to close the path by clicking the starting anchor point. It will instead just create another anchor point in that exact same spot and continue the path.

Yep, you are right, there is no circle drawn next to the cursor, and the rubber band is still displayed when I move the mouse, indicating the path is not closed... so yes, for some reason Ai here prefers to see the point above instead of the one from the currently selected path.
I checked this in older builds, and it behaves the same in CC2017 and CS6. Amazingly nobody noticed this...
The workaround I can offer so far is to isolate the path being drawn somewhere in the middle of the process (I use a custom set hotkey to do it, so no tool toggling and double-clicking is required), and close the path with no z-order problem with it isolated.
And surely it should be fixed, I think. Thanks for the report! -

it looks your gif is doing the same thing as mine. You can tell because when you close the 2nd path the last point is a white square and not filled and there is a line still connecting your cursor to the path. i think that corner is two different anchors and if you had clicked again it would have made another point connected to that path. The only reason I've noticed this is because I've started new paths with the pen tool without clicking off of a shape first.
I'm on 29.7.1, but I believe I've noticed this problem on the past two updates. I don't know how far back it goes. I've tried installing the pre-release, but it just tells me my build is expired and closes, so I don't want to deal with that right now

Strange... I try to reproduce it and it just works for me, just like in the GIF.
What build are you using exactly? Does it behave the same in Beta for you? -

This is what is going on for me when I do it I don't know if there is some weird preference that could cause this to happen or something. I have tried resetting preferences.

I try to replicate this and it works fine for me, in both 29.7.1 and Beta 29.9.0.14, on Windows — I can close a path using Draw Behind mode when there is a point already above the last point of the current path.
Perhaps I’m doing it wrong? Can you record a short video, please?
